Sandra Hessing, age 89, of Jordan, MN, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026. Sandy will be laid to rest at Spirit Hill Cemetery in Jordan, MN, in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, in remembrance of Sandy, please share your love with family and friends with an extra hug or an act of kindness!
Sandra was born on May 12, 1936, to Valgar and Pearl (Bakken) Peterson in Wisconsin, but while she was still very young, the family moved to Jordan, MN, and made it their home. Sandy grew up in Jordan as one of three children, eventually graduating from Jordan High School. She met Earl Hessing in school while attending the local Methodist church, and they were united in marriage when she was 21 years old. Before they went their separate ways some time later, they were blessed with four children, who they raised on the farm.
Sandy was a devoted mother and took pride in all of her children’s achievements and activities. She always made sure that her family’s needs were met and worked hard to do so. She provided deliciously cooked meals for her children and also worked as a cook for the Scott County Government center for many years before her eventual retirement.
Sandy was “Ma Hessing” to all and had an open-door policy for neighborhood kids and friends that her children brought home. As a lover of animals as well, her open-door policy extended to stray dogs and cats. She took in countless pets that needed homes over the years. Later in life, Sandy was blessed with many Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. She loved each of them dearly.
With her family, Sandy enjoyed camping, fishing, going on road trips, and all sorts of outdoor activities. As long as she had a Pepsi in her hand, she loved to just enjoy life! She had a knack for finding the levity in serious moments and wasn’t one to sugarcoat anything. Sandy picked up knitting and crocheting over the years as well, and donated baby caps, blankets, and other handmade pieces regularly to the local food shelf.
A tough, brassy, strong-willed, but deeply loving and caring woman, Sandy will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children, Brian (Cheryl) Hessing, Brad (Lisa) Hessing, Nancy Gould; grandchildren, Luke (Britnay), Matthew (Amy), Chris (Stephanie), Heidi (Brian), Joe (Daisy), Adam, Molly (Nick), Michael (Alexis), Brandon, Peter; great-grandchildren, Keira, Freya, Georgie, Aurelia, Coraline, Elenor, Lydia, Franklin, Scarlet, Leo, James, Marshall, Dallas; sister-in-law, Doris Peterson; dear friend, Fern Hessing; many other loving relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her son, Todd Hessing; parents, Valgar and Pearl Peterson; brothers, Terry Peterson and Kurt (June) Peterson; and son-in-law, George Gould.
