Rosemary Wiegel

Rosemary (Wetmore) Wiegel, age 79, of Boscobel, passed away following a short illness on January 6, 2026, at Boscobel Care and Rehab.

Rosemary was born on February 2, 1946, in Boscobel at Brookside Parker Hospital to Charles and Lela (Yero) Wetmore. She grew up on a farm in rural Boscobel with her older sister, Shirley, a childhood that nurtured her lifelong love of animals. From a young age, she shared a special bond with them—especially horses. As a youth, she loved riding and was known to ride her horse into town.

Rosemary was a graduate of Boscobel High School, Class of 1964. After high school, she worked briefly in Madison as a telephone operator, but city life did not suit her, and she soon returned to the area she loved.

On April 10, 1969, Rosemary married Richard Wiegel of Darlington at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Seymour, Wisconsin. They met at a roller rink, beginning a love story that would span 56 years.

Rosemary dedicated her career to caring for others, first as a Nurse’s Aide and later as a Health Unit Clerk. She proudly worked for more than 30 years at Boscobel Hospital and was especially proud to have worked alongside her mother, Lela, for a time.

Well known for her deep love of animals, Rosemary had a special place in her heart for horses and dogs. She welcomed many rescue dogs into her home over the years and was widely known as the best dog mom any rescue could hope for. She could often be seen walking her dogs—sometimes three at a time—always with a smile. Her compassion for animals was endless, and they brought her immense joy throughout her life.

In her quieter moments, Rosemary enjoyed crocheting and made many quilts and winter caps for family and friends. She loved reading Stephen King novels and watching NCIS, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Blue Bloods.

For the past year and a half, Rosemary resided at Boscobel Care and Rehab with her husband and sister. She enjoyed word-find puzzles and would light up whenever a dog visited the facility, a reminder of the love she carried for animals until the very end.

Rosemary is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Richard Wiegel of Boscobel; her daughter, Penelope (Scott) Seiler of Baraboo; her son, Matthew (Darcy) Wiegel of Boscobel; her grandchildren, Paul Seiler of Baraboo and Rachel (Phil) Tamling of Boscobel; and her sister, Shirley Aasen of Boscobel.

She is further survived by Richard’s siblings: Judy (Stuart) Bussey of Brodhead; Marilyn (Tom) Weber of Brodhead; Duane (Diane) Wiegel of Gratiot; Pam (Carl) Fenner of Darlington; Tim (Diane) Wiegel of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Barb (Steve) Frazier of Monroe; Dorothy Opie of Brodhead; Dawn (Woody) Thompson of Brodhead; Laura (Brett) Nolte of Darlington; Lynn Wiegel of Darlington; and Rodger (Michelle) Wiegel of Shullsburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lela Wetmore; her infant brother, John; special friends Joan Walz and Leore Peterson; and many beloved dogs who were truly family to her.

As per Rosemary’s wishes, she was resomated (water cremation) and will be laid to rest at Boscobel Cemetery with her parents this spring. In accordance with her request, the ashes of her beloved dogs will be interred with her. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at The Farmer’s Daughter in Blue River.

Memorials may be made in Rosemary’s name to Grant County Humane Society, Ocooch Mountain Humane Society, Richland Area Rescue, or any animal shelter of your choice.
