Richard "Dick" J. Pauly

On March 22, 2026, Richard “Dick” J. Pauly, age 79, of Jordan, MN, died at home of cancer and heart issues.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 11:00 AM with visitation one-hour prior at Marystown Catholic Church (15850 Marystown Rd.) in Shakopee, MN. Richard will be laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Jordan, MN.

Dick was born in Shakopee, MN, on April 3, 1946. Because his father was in the US Navy, he lived in Maine and Guam, eventually moving when he was 8 years old to Marystown and then to Jordan, MN, to start his Sophomore year in High School. High School graduation was in 1964. He attended Mankato State University for five quarters and then went to work. He married his neighbor, Elizabeth “Beth” Stahler on December 6, 1969. The first date was easy. He walked her home from the Scott County Fair. Their 50th anniversary was in 2019.

Dick got his B.S. in business administration in 1973 at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 1973. Living in Minneapolis, they adopted two children, Scott (1976), and Anne (1978). Saint Thomas University gave him an M.B.A. in 1980. Up to this point, it was all work, family, and school.

Family and social life added a cabin and fishing in Wisconsin, vacations to Massachusetts and Oklahoma to see extended family, playing golf and bridge, taking in two foreign exchange high school students, and having company ourselves.

In 1985, we moved to Ohio for 10 years, and then Seoul, South Korea for 7 years. He retired in 2001 from the main company he worked for, Dana Corp, Toledo, OH, and built his last house in Jordan, MN, to be close to both his and his wife’s family. All settled in, and with one grandchild, Skye Pauly, he worked 14 years in Cologne, MN at Midland Cooperative. He retired for good at age 78. That made 70 years of working (started at Uncle’s store at age 8 in Marystown) when he wasn’t selling fish he caught in a lake for 1 cent to neighbors.

After six weeks of retirement doing things he loved such as cooking, baking (especially French Silk Pie and birthday cake), playing Keno at the casino, watching Hawaii 5-0 and Perry Mason on TV, and enjoying his family, the doctoring started, and lasted around a year.

A couple of good things happened during his last year. He was never in pain and he died at home. Thank you to Allina Hospice and his son, Scott, and daughter, Anne, for their care.

His employees loved him. He was funny, especially with one liner responses. He was a great husband, father, uncle, in-law, and big brother.

Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth; children, R. Scott Pauly, Anne Penaloza; grandchild, Skye Pauly; siblings, Patricia (Lyle) Lambrecht, Mary (Russ Tiegs) Pauly, and Susie (Jack) Shuman; and many other loving family and friends. He is reunited in heaven with his parents, Sylvester and Virginia Pauly; and siblings, Thomas Pauly and Mike Pauly.
