Born on June 12, 1943, in Waterloo, Iowa to Eugene and Margaret (Spence) Klein, Pat grew up in Gilbertville, IA as one of nine siblings. He attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and Don Bosco High School before earning a Construction Engineering degree from Iowa State University in 1966.

Patrick’s life was a testament to faith, family, and service. Pat married his high school sweetheart, Norma Trumbauer on November 21, 1964, in Jesup, Iowa. Pat and Norma raised their five children in Prior Lake. In 1994, they moved to Parker Colorado for 12 years and moved back to Prior Lake in 2005, while also spending many winters in Fountain Hills, Arizona.

Pat spent 30 years with PCL Construction, leading landmark projects such as the Mall of America, Hawaii Convention Center, Minneapolis Amfac Hotel, and St Paul Town Square. From 1998-2003 he also served on the Board of Directors for the Design Build Institute of America. He retired from PCL in 2008 as a Vice President of Pre-Construction Services.

As Prior Lake grew, a new Catholic Church was needed, and Pat was honored to be selected as the President of the Church Building Committee. He led the building effort and the new St Michael’s Church opened in 1986. Forty years later, it still stands strong—a testament to faith, community, and vision.

What shines most brightly about Pat is not just what he accomplished, but how he lived — with purpose, structure, humility, and an open heart. Whether guiding others through complex challenges or lending quiet support when it mattered most, he led by example — through compassion, steadiness, and faith. His generosity reached far beyond words or gestures. From his work helping the poor as the Chairman of the Board for ‘Friends of Chimbote Mission’ in Peru, where he gave his time, heart, and hands to those in need, to the countless ways he lifted friends, family, and strangers alike, he always lived as if giving was the greatest joy of all.

At home, he was the steady heart of his family — an amazing husband, devoted father of 5 children, proud grandfather of 13, and now great-grandfather of 17, whose love ran deep and unconditional. His faith guided him through every season, shaping the way he lived and loved. It’s a faith that doesn’t just speak — it acts, in the way he treated people, the way he served, and the way he gave thanks for every blessing.

Those who knew him knew his humor — that quick wit and twinkle in his eye that could turn an ordinary day into a memory. He had the rare gift of making others feel lighter, reminding everyone around him that laughter is sacred, and life, even in its challenges, is meant to be celebrated.

Pat’s legacy lives not in the titles or achievements, but in the countless lives he touched through faith, generosity, and love. Patrick’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Patrick is survived by his loving wife, Norma; children, Chris (Ana) Klein, Michelle (Scott) Jirik, Pamela (Timothy) Powers, Jennifer (Billy) Simon, Jay (Betsy) Klein; 13 grandchildren, Ariana (Wess Johnson) Klein, Nicolas (Mafer) Klein, Thomas Klein, David (Katie) Jirik, Kim (Tony) Gehling, Jacob (Alicia) Jirik, Sarah (Andy) Smith, Shane (Emily) Powers, Caitlyn (Jesse) Hokanson, Kevin (Maria) Powers, Isabel Simon, Grace Simon, and William Simon; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Elaine Catalano, Keith Klein, David Klein, Larry Klein, Annette Zuck, Angela Hauser; in-laws, George Amling, Bill McAleer, Cheryl (Leroy) Schares, Rosie (Pat) Perkins, Terri Wigant, Richard (Pam) Trumbauer, Paula (Mike) Kiesand other loving in-laws, family, and friends.
