On September 6th at 1:35 AM, Holly King, age 47, peacefully passed away at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. She was born September 26th, 1977 in Sioux City, Iowa. Her tenacious personality inspired all her loved ones as she diligently fought against her cancer, which unfortunately took her life. While she may not walk alongside her friends and family, she lives on in all of our memories and watches over us in her new life, wherever she may be. Holly was no standard edition of a person. She was revered by everyone who loved her for her goofy charm, keen wit, and tough-yet-tender heart. She, like many people, struggled to find that one particular passion in life that’s supposed to brighten your soul and give you hope. She kickstarted her passion through music education, keeping the arts alive through teaching our youth. After many years of exploring her passion and hobbies, she finally embarked on her greatest challenge and found a home she never could have imagined.
In the fall of 2023 she started her journey to become a Doctorate of Chiropractic at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN. Though going back to school at the age of 45 was quite a monumental task, Holly embraced her education journey and discovered that she not only was more than capable of becoming a chiropractor, but had the knowledge and potential to be a renowned researcher in the field. Her specialty shined in neurology and pathology. She hoped to dive into much neurological research and lead efforts to help find causes and solutions for many diseases and disorders that stemmed in the brain. Once she received her cancer diagnosis earlier this year in June, she set forth to not only research, learn, and lead her own cancer efforts, but to hopefully find a better path forward for all cancer patients that bravely fight their battles. Her journey revived her self-confidence and reassurance that she truly was a remarkable person the world had not yet fully met. She found where she belonged with peers who not only respected and encouraged her, but admired her for everything she had to offer.
Holly offered so much in her lifetime as a devoted mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. She always made sure her family and friends were always taken care of before herself. Her selfless nature never faltered and it left such a lasting impression in every single one of her loved ones. Words cannot express how deeply Holly will be missed. She will continue to live on in all of her wonderfully silly stories she created throughout her life.
Her family members Bri King (daughter), Brian Rickow (Husband), Chad and Brandi King (Brother and Sister-in-Law), Madi, Mila, and Rory King (Nieces), Dennis and Brenda King (Father and Step Mother), Olivia King (Sister), Mary Grotenhuis (Mother) will carry her on in their memories.
The family will be holding a celebration of life on Friday September 26th for Holly as a final farewell of a beloved woman. For details on this event, please reach out to any family members listed above. The family invites others to share any loving memories they might have of Holly so they can keep and share them for years to come.
