Betty was born on February 8, 1932, during a snowstorm on the family farm in Credit River, MN. She was the sixth of seven children born to Henry and Mary (Kroyer) Borka. She attended school in Lakeville, walking daily to the one-room schoolhouse. From a young age, Betty learned the value of hard work and dedication, often working alongside her father tending to the farm’s animals and crops. She later graduated from Lakeville High School.

Following graduation, Betty began a 33-year career with Northwestern Bell, where she built lasting friendships and made meaningful contributions. After retiring, she continued to serve others through volunteer work at St. Michael Catholic Church and the Alpha Women’s Center.

Betty met her future husband, Robert “Bob” Haugh, at a Credit River dance, though their story began years earlier as they grew up attending St. Peter’s Church and school together. Their lifelong bond was rooted in faith, love, and devotion. They were united in marriage on July 5, 1952, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Credit River, celebrating with a two-week honeymoon traveling across the United States alongside Aunt Margaret and Uncle Bob Ryan.

Together, Betty and Bob built their life on the Haugh family farm. They began their marriage living with Bob’s parents, who later moved into town as Betty and Bob prepared for their growing family. Over the years, they lovingly raised their nine children, Jim, Barb, Bill, Jayne, Mary, Mark, Dan, Dick, and Patty, instilling in them the same strong values that guided their own lives.

Betty had a lifelong love of horses and proudly earned many ribbons and awards showing them. She also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, window shopping, and caring for her beautiful, well-kept yard and flowers.

Faith was at the heart of Betty’s life and evident in the warmth of her home. Her door was always open, welcoming family and friends with the comfort of a home-cooked meal. Her home quietly reflected her deep devotion, adorned with statues of the Holy Family, crucifixes on the walls, and rosaries resting on tables as daily reminders of her faith. Whenever someone needed comfort or healing, Betty was there with her rosary in hand, offering prayers and blessing them with Padre Pio’s holy oil. Betty was determined, generous, and unwavering in her support of those she loved, always placing family at the center of her life. She especially cherished time with her 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories and strong, loving bonds.

Betty was blessed by many who supported and cared for her, including Sister Jo of the Poor Clare Monastery for her prayers, Bishop Kevin Kenney, Father Tom Walker, and the compassionate staff at Park Nicollet Hospice, especially Darbi, Ashley, and Jane. She was deeply grateful for her daughter-in-law, Lori Haugh, who brought her the Eucharist each week, and her daughter, Barb, who remained faithfully by her side. The family also extends their thanks to Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation.

Betty will be deeply missed by her loving children: Jim (Cathy) Haugh, Barb (Steve) Kappers, Bill (Judith) Haugh, Jayne (Dave) Novak, Mary (John) Mesenbrink, Mark (Shelley) Haugh, Dan (Lori) Haugh, Dick (Denise) Haugh, and Patty (Rob) Casey; her cherished grandchildren, Jake (Jackie), Emmie (Joel), Tim, Lauren (Joe), Mikel (Jackie), Maria (Zach), Nate, Chris, Nikki (Peter), Jessica (Nick), Jenna (Justin), Brittney (Pete), Tona (Sean), Johnny (Stephanie), Josh (Brenna), Joey (Hannah), Venessa (Toby), Austin (Britney), Darin, Grace (Max), Lizzy, Katie (Wyatt); 30 great grandchildren and one on the way; other relatives and friends.

Welcoming Betty into eternal life are her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Haugh; her parents, Henry and Mary Borka; and her siblings, Norbert (Lorraine) Borka, Elroy (Joan) Borka, Marie (Joe) Eischens, Leander (Jean) Borka, Marcella (Frank) Jackson, and Ralph (Darlene) Borka.
