Eldon Gene Skoglund

Eldon Gene Skoglund, 80, of Prior Lake MN, passed away on January 6, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. A Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 PM with Closing Words at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Ballard Sunder Funeral & Cremation, 4565 Pleasant St. SE, Prior Lake, MN. A reception will follow. A private interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date.

Eldon was born in 1945 and raised on the family farm on Lake Florida. He graduated from New London High School and later attended Brown Institute. He began his career at Control Data in 1964, then went on to serve honorably in the United States Army until 1967, earning the rank of Sargent E5, something he was extremely proud of. Once he returned from his service, Eldon resumed working for Control Data/Syntegra/BT in IT for 43 years until his retirement.

Eldon was an avid outdoorsman and earned the nickname “Norwegian Hammer” by his friend and fishing guide, Jeff. He cherished his time spent fishing and hunting with his sons and spending weekends at the cabin with friends and family. After he was blessed with grandchildren, he became their number one fan, watching and attending as many of their sporting events as he could. An avid Minnesota sports fan, he was dedicated to supporting the Twins and the Vikings through the years as well. He also enjoyed water skiing in the summer, golfing, and snowmobiling in the winter months.

Eldon will be missed by his sons he cherished, Jason (Stacy) and John (Shannon); grandchildren he adored, Jack, Sam, Nick, and Kayla; sisters-in-law, Nancy and Pat Skoglund (Bruce); friend, Cyd Oswald; bonus family, Sean, Emily, Finn, and Micah Dunnigan; and many other loving family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Manda; brothers, Kenneth, Wally, and Paul; and sister, Ruby Bernhagen.
