Douglas “Poochie” Quitmeyer, age 68, of Hopkins, MN, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own room on February 23rd, 2026, holding hands with his loving Daughter Tonya, Son-in-law Tim, Granddaughter Lucy and Grandson Jamison.
He was born on April 14th, 1957 to Richard and Margaret “Trixie” Quitmeyer in Alexandria, MN. Where he grew up being the 3rd oldest of 6 kids, 4 brothers and 1 sister. He was married twice, to Shari Gesche, whom he shared 2 Daughter’s with and then later, to Kathleen Bundy.
In his early 20s, he moved to the Twin Cities, where he started his own company - T. Quitmeyer’s lawn and landscaping - named after his daughter, Tonya. When he wasn’t busy making your lawn look pristine, you could almost bet that he was out on his boat fishing, whether it was for pure enjoyment, or he was trying to slam a record-breaking bass during a sponsored tournament. He loved everything outdoors, from riding his motorcycle, to hunting, ice fishing, boating, snowmobiling and grilling the absolute best steak. He took after his love of cooking and baking from his mother and his family always looked forward to dinners at his house. We especially enjoyed his homemade garlic mashed potatoes and fresh baked cheesecake with double crust. If he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, you could find him kicking back and relaxing in his recliner geared up in his sports apparel ready to watch the Vikings, TWINS or WILD games. If you were lucky enough, he may have talked to you before a game to make a little cash bet on who was going to win. Although, the last 10 years of health battles limited him from doing all the things that he loved, we would continue to talk about these great memories with him. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children, Tonya (Tim) Botsford, Jason (Nishia) Henke; grandchildren, Lucy and Jamison Botsford, Jaxson Henke and Abi and Natalie Long. His siblings Dick (Becki Peterson) Quitmeyer, Cindy (Rob Scheel) Quitmeyer, Gary Quitmeyer, Scott (Donna) Quitmeyer.
Doug was proceeded in death by his Grandparents, William and Alma Rapp, Mother, Trixie; Father, Richard; Brother, Jack and Daughter, Tasha.
The family is having a private burial, but all are welcome to join us for a celebration of life and luncheon afterwards on May 8th, 2026 from 1:30 – 3:30 PM at the Alexandria VFW – 1102 Third Avenue East Alexandria, MN 56308
