Daniel DeMers, 71, of Shakopee, passed away unexpectedly on December 27, 2025. A Liturgy of the Word will be held for him on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Ballard Sunder Funeral Home in Shakopee (833 Marschall Rd) beginning at 11:30am. There will be a time of visitation prior from 10-11:15am at the funeral home. To honor who he was, guests are invited to dress casually, and flannel is especially welcome.
Daniel DeMers was born and raised in Shakopee, Minnesota, where he was raised as the fourth of nine children in a close-knit Catholic family. From a young age, Daniel developed a deep love for the outdoors, especially fishing. He was so devoted to fishing that he would ride his bike to Prior Lake just to spend some time on the water.
Family was always central to his life, and he especially enjoyed playing card games with his relatives, a tradition that brought many laughs and lasting memories.
Daniel began his working life at Rock Spring Bottling, where he worked until the company closed. He then went on to work at CertainTeed, dedicating more than 40 years of service before retiring in 2019. His strong work ethic and reliability were hallmarks of his career.
Through his sister-in-law, Daniel met Roxana, who would become the love of his life. They were married on November 19, 1977, at the Presbyterian Church in Shakopee with a priest assisting with the service. Together they built a family and shared many meaningful years together.
Daniel was a devoted father to his children, Brandon, Sarah, and Emily. After the loss of Brandon, Daniel and his family took a meaningful trip to Alaska, creating family memories that would stay with them forever.
When he wasn’t fishing, Daniel enjoyed watching science fiction movies and television shows. He had a special fondness for his little Yorkies and took great joy in spending time with his four grandchildren, often taking them fishing and sharing his love of the outdoors with them.
An avid sports fan, Daniel was known as a kind, nice, and quiet man whose steady presence and gentle nature touched those around him. Daniel is survived by his wife, Roxana DeMers; children, Sarah (Tim) Rhoden, Emily (Chris) Welsh; grandkids, Connor and Jameson Rhoden, Danny and Harrison Welsh; siblings, Stephen Jr. DeMers, Cathy Cole, Chuck (Gayle) DeMers, Barbara (Harold) Johnson, Susan (Kevin) Kotchevar, Laurie (Vern) Grassel, Patrick (Becky) DeMers, Theresa (Steven) Poppler; dogs; Cocoa and Spice; and many other loving family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his son; Brandon DeMers; and parents, Stephen and Mary DeMers. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
