Born on December 12, 1955, at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee, MN to Georgia Rose (Fischer) and Patrick Halloran. Brian was the 5th of 8 children and shares countless special memories with his siblings. An energetic man from the start, especially loving time spent actively outdoors. To say he loved fishing is an understatement. He was a natural born fisherman and fishing was a passion throughout his life. Also, an enthusiastic sports fan, regularly seen & heard cheering on (or complaining about) his beloved Minnesota teams, especially the Vikings. Maybe the Vikings will win next year… As a child and through his high school years, he played hockey & football. He liked to boast that as a freshman, the broomball team beat the senior team because “the freshman were all the real hockey players.” Shakopee High School introduced their first ever official Varsity Hockey Team in 1973 that he was a proud member of, #11. Brian graduated from Shakopee in 1974. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and spent time overseas, Pearl Harbor and on the USS Ponchatoula.
During his younger years he worked at the Gedney Pickle Plant (Home of the Minnesota Pickle) in Chaska. After returning from the Navy, he spent several years as a Route/Delivery & Distribution driver while raising his family in Bloomington. After moving to Prior Lake in 2013, he began his final career with the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, working in facilities. Brian was a selfless man in all he did, cared deeply about people and the work he carried out. Always placing others before himself.
Brian was also a gifted life-long gardener, a true green thumb, having built, tended to and cared for several gardens throughout his life. This gift really showcased his nurturing nature and caring ways in all aspects of life. This passion continues to live on through his children & grandchildren.
Brian was the embodiment of the Family Man.
He met the love of his life, Patty (Patricia) Meyers in 1979 and proposed on her birthday in January 1981 at The (original) Shakopee House. They were married on June 12, 1982, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in NE Minneapolis. True partners in life, they were together for every adventure. Brian was the most devoted husband, deeply loving and caring for Patty every single day. He especially loved their daily walks, being in nature & the birds, shopping – driving anywhere necessary, checking out the newest food trucks. A trip to the candy store. They were often found at their favorite, Edelweiss Bakery & many farmer’s markets. Always up for something new but found joy in every day, simple things. Genuinely enjoying each other’s company, an authentic example of everlasting love.
That adventurous, dynamic, loving, spirit was constantly lived through his proudest role as Dad to Anne Marie & Joseph Patrick. Many family vacations, including trips to the lake, fishing, boating, sports, cards, boardgames & puzzles, 100s of movie nights, gardening, painting, biking & walks. Watching or going to sporting events, shows, plays, concerts. He thoroughly loved visiting his kids at college. So many traditions he created that will live on. You name it, Dad did it all. It was incredibly rewarding to him to be a proud coach for both Anne and many of Joey’s teams: baseball, basketball & football... He is also widely known and remembered for being the ultimate Dance Dad. A camera or camcorder was always in hand for all the above. We are fortunate for his talented ways of documenting the 1000s of photos & videos he leaves behind. In fact, Dad was the scrapbooker in the family, devoting hours upon hours of his free time creatively putting together books for Anne & Joey.
But for Brian, there was no greater joy than being promoted to Papa and the very, precious time spent with his grandbabies. Brian was the most dedicated Papa there ever was. His inner child shined brightly as he loved & cared for his beloved girls June, Lillian & Rylee. Also, most recently his first grandson, James “Little Jimmy” sharing a very special birthday month together. He got to re-live and share the experiences, his passions, gifts and love with them, just as he raised his children. There is simply not enough we could ever say about Papa and how he gave his whole heart to his grandbabies. He showed up at every moment in every way and his presence in their lives will be profoundly missed.
Brian was a special and kind-hearted soul. A fun and funny man until the end. Soft spoken and sometimes a man of few words, he lived by “actions speak louder than words.” The smiles, laughter and joy that filled our hearts during his beautifully lived 70 years will be reminisced for the rest of ours.
Brian is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Patty and his children Anne (Tyler “T.J.”) Joyce of Savage, MN and Joseph (Kimberly) Halloran of Delano, MN; 4 grand-children June & Rylee Joyce and Lillian & James Halloran. Siblings: John of Las Vegas, NV, Patrick James “P.J.” of Tucson, AZ, Teresa (Paul) Kirby of El Centro, CA, Michael of Gurabo, PR, Ann (Howie) Oshiro of West Covina, CA, Daniel of Arlington, MN and Paul of Brooklyn Park, MN. Nieces and nephews from around the world. Preceded in death by his parents Georgia Rose and Patrick Halloran and sister-in-law Margarita Halloran.
As a friend quoted in his 1974 high school yearbook: “Brian, keep your skates moving and hockey pucks flying because bigger and better things are ahead for you.”
We love you Dad.
