Barbara Jean Schneider

Barbara “Jean” (Swanlaw) Schneider, age 89 of Burnsville, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026. Jean was born October 30, 1936 in Devils Lake, ND. She was the daughter of Westie and Lola Swanlaw. She grew up and graduated from Milton High School, Milton, ND in 1954. She earned her nursing diploma from Grand Forks Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She worked as a school nurse at William Byrne Elementary School in Burnsville, MN, and then worked at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee, MN. Jean also worked in the family business until she retired.

Jean was united in marriage to Bill Schneider on October 31, 1959, in Adams, MN. The couple was blessed with three children: Jeff, Dan and Pat. The family made their home in Adams, St. Paul, Marshall, Hibbing, Chisholm and settled in Burnsville, MN. Jean and Bill shared 62 years of marriage until Bill passed away on November 21, 2021.

Jean had many interests which included watching the MN Twins. She rarely missed a televised game. Meeting and having coffee with her nursing friends from St. Francis Hospital was something she always looked forward to. She enjoyed walking, exercising and running the family business. Jean also loved camping trips to Cass Lake, MN to visit with lifelong friends, and traveling to Mexico. Jean, Bill and their friends would also drive the purple bus to the MN Vikings games for tailgating at the Met Stadium. Jean’s family was very important to her. She and Bill spent countless hours attending and watching their grandchildren’s sporting events.

Jean is survived by her sons, Jeff Schneider (Kay) of Savage, Dan Schneider (Maxine) of Woodbury and Pat Schneider of Burnsville; grandsons, Jesse Schneider, Mason Schneider (Hannah) and Sam Schneider (Samantha); step grandchildren, Brett Anderson (Rachel), Reid Anderson; great grandchild, Greta Schneider; step great grandchildren, Willow Anderson, Braxton Anderson, Brayden Anderson and 11 nieces and nephews. 

Jean was preceded in death by her spouse, Bill Schneider; parents, Westie and Lola Swanlaw and brother, John Swanlaw.

A memorial service is set for Monday, July 20, at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church, Savage, MN. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM with a Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. A lunch will follow the service.
