Aubre Lee was born into the third-generation circus performers of Robert and Vernis (Dazell) Atterbury. At the young age of three, she started her career riding on the shoulder of her father on the high wire and performing with the elephants until the age of 14.
The day after graduating from Kennedy High School in Bloomington in 1967, Aubre set out for California, embracing new adventures and opportunities. After a short return to Minnesota, she met Max Gordon, a 1966 Lincoln Bear graduate from Bloomington and a musician as well. He was the first love of her life. Together, they were blessed with two children, a son, Aaron, and a daughter, Manzanita, beginning a new chapter as a young family.
Aubre began a cosmetology career at Horst and Friends, quickly advancing to artistic director at the Southdale location. Following Max's death in 1981, She became a single mother and purchased her first home in South Minneapolis. Carrying on Max, Aaron, and Manzanita’s heritage, she enjoyed being involved in the Native American life with focusing on the beading of earrings.
Aubre found a second love of her life at a party in Jordan hosted by Charlie Larca, who was the coach of the Jordan Brewers baseball team, and they had won the state title that year. Aubre was a coworker of Charlie’s wife Dianne, where Craig and Aubre met. She said she spotted this tall guy of a man in a sea of boys. Craig and Aubre were married on December 22, 1983, and have been land stewards of their property while raising and training their trail horses on the 40 acres.
Aubre enjoyed her retirement by passing her time reading, weekend camping with their horses and traveling to places in the RV. She also enjoyed visiting the Scott County Library where Aubre indulged in reading books and attending various classes. As a young child being surrounded by elephants, this love carried through her life, in her retirement years. Aubre’s greatest love was being a grandmother to three grandchildren.
Aubre loved diving into the culture and history of new places, traveling to Jamaica, Mexico, Belize, England, France and touching nearly all 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii.
Aubre lived a bountiful life. Her contagious smile will live on in the hearts of her husband, Craig; children, Aaron (Megan) Gordon, Manzanita (Andrew) Peterson; grandchildren, Max Gordon, Kaya Gordon, Yrsala (Ezra) Turcotte; great grandchild, Erilaz Turcotte; brother, Rick (Pat) Atterbury; lifetime friends, Diane Norris, Linda Fischer, Jackie Borgin, Kathy Eager, other relatives and friends. She is greeted in eternal peace by her husband, Max Gordon and her parents.
A visitation will be held for Aubre on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 4-6 pm, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 104 West First Street, Jordan, MN.
