Alberta "Betty" Veldhuis

Age 88 of Prior Lake, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 9, 2026.

A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Prior Lake. Betty will be laid to rest at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery next to her husband Ted Veldhuis. Father Tom Walker will preside.

Betty was born on May 8, 1938, in the town of Oldenzaal, Netherlands to parents Hendrikus and Geertruida Belderink, she was the oldest of three siblings.

Betty met and married Ted Veldhuis and they exchanged wedding vows in Oldenzaal, Holland on April 11, 1959. As newlyweds, they decided to immigrate and join Ted's older brother Henk's family in America. Their honeymoon was sailing across the Atlantic to begin a new adventure in the United States. Together, they learned English as their second language while they navigated their new country - eventually, they settled in St. Louis Park before moving to Prior Lake where they put down roots to raise their two children, Bonnie and Mark. Along with raising her family, Betty worked evenings as a hostess at the Town Crier for many years then ended her career at Control Data where Ted worked. In retirement Betty loved to travel with friends, play cards, bake, sew, knit and tend to her flowers in the garden. Betty and Ted both enjoyed staying active in their community through various volunteer roles, including assisting with funeral luncheons at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and supporting residents at St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Betty's memory will be cherished by her children, Bonnie (Jeff) Lund, Mark (Karen) Veldhuis; grandchildren, Corinne (Josh) Gordon, Alex (Ashli) Veldhuis, Stephanie (Andy) Barthelemy, Kaitlin Lund; great-grandchildren, Carter, Callum, and Grayden Gordon, Tatum and Scotti Veldhuis, and Rynlee Barthelemy.

Betty is reunited in heaven with Ted by her side, along with her parents, Hendrikus and Geertruida Belderink.

Words cannot express our gratitude to the wonderful staff at The Meadows Senior Living for the endless love and support they have shown Betty and the entire Veldhuis family.
