Albert E. Tuschinski

Albert Edward Tuschinski passed away on September 17, 2026 at the age of 81, a patient for 6 years at Ebenezer Care Center. 

He was born in Wilmington, DE on September 25, 1944. At the age of four he was diagnosed with the worst possible bulbar polio causing a prolonged stay at a contagious disease ward of the local hospital in Delaware. For several years this took him on a journey to many medical facilities for rehabilitation, braces and crutches and several more years of leg surgeries. Through the Easter Seal Foundation in Delaware for Crippled Children he was provided with camping opportunities, rehabilitation and schooling. At the age of seven, Al was the Poster boy for the Easter Seals in Delaware. During his surgeries he was able to resume his studies in junior high, high school and college with an accounting degree. He was employed by a local hospital in their accounting office and worked there for many years until he was diagnosed with Post Polio syndrome and was unable to continue working.

After more rehab and counseling for the syndrome, Al met his future wife, Joy Duval. Joy happened to be his counselor at the center and, incidentally, was suffering with Muscular Sclerosis. After marriage and armed with their wheelchairs, they traveled to many states and casinos (Al loved Blackjack) and finally moved to San Marino, CA. Upon the death of his wife, he then moved to Minnesota to live in an Assisted Living apartment. Years later, after a bad fall, he was transported to the hospital for emergency surgery and then to the rehab center in Shakopee for several weeks. He was unable to return to his apartment, so he was admitted to Ebenezer Care Center for the next six years until his passing. The amazing memory of his lifelong battle with polio, was constant humor and courage!

Al will be missed by his siblings, Patti Sotis of Prior Lake, MN; Joanne Flynn of Wimington, DE; Richard Tuschinski (Linda) of St. Augustine, FL; Agnes (Preston) Burris of New Castle, DE; Bob Tuschinski (Kathy), and especially his sister Patti and niece Karen and nephew Jamey and his family who spent many visits at his side at the Ebenezer Care Center. He is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceeded in death by his wife Joy, his parents Mary and Joseph Tuschinski and his nephew and best friend, Bill Sotis and nephew-in-law, Jim Welch.

 Cremation will take place at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation in Prior Lake, MN.
