Mickey was born on Thursday, July 21, 1921 in Popeli-Drohobycz, Poland, to the parents Demitro and Maria Wesolowska. She was raised in Ukraine, until the city was over taken during the war in the 1940’s.

In 1946, while working for the Red Cross in Germany, Mickey met her husband of 64 years, John Vohnoutka, while he was serving in the United States Army. They were married on Thursday, December 21, 1946 in Ludwigsburg, Germany. Moving back to the states, Mickey and John raised three sons, Ed, Jerry and Bill. They resided in Shakopee for the past 60 plus years.

Most of Mickey’s career was spent working as a waitress at Clem’s Café, Vic and Elsie, Jim and Lucy’s (for 25 plus years) and Turtle’s Bar and Grill. Mickey baked and sold breads and rolls, out of her home for the Shakopee House and The St. Paul House and several neighbors and friends even before she worked at Vic’s. Her favorite was to make chocolate chip cookies for her sons and their families.

Although Mickey was fluent in Ukrainian, Polish, Czech, Russian and German, she did not speak English when she arrived in the States. As she became fluent in English, she also assisted with translating for foreign families entering the Shakopee School District.

In her free time, she enjoyed playing BINGO and playing cards with family and friends. Mickey’s biggest passion in life was spending precious time with her children and grandchildren. Mickey also enjoyed entertaining with friends at their Miltona lake home.

An active member of the Shakopee V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Church of St. Mark and Degree of Honor, Mickey was also a proud member of her neighborhood birthday club. For over 50 years, she relished celebrating everyone’s birthday.

Mickey was a kind, caring person to all she met. In the past, Mickey would make a weekly visit to Friendship Manor just to visit all of her friends, neighbors who were there never missing a chance to say hi and how are you doing.

A resident of Shakopee, Mickey, age 90, passed away peacefully the early afternoon of Monday, March 26, 2012 at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Shakopee, MN. In her home land, Mickey will be “Vichnaja PamJat” which means memory everlasting in Ukrainian.

Forever loved, Mickey will be deeply missed by sons, Ed (Tama) Vohnoutka of Sauk Centre, MN and Bill (Jeanna) Vohnoutka of Shakopee; grandchildren, Dustin, Nicole, John and Dawn Vohnoutka and Megan (Craig) Schneider; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Arvilla Vohnoutka of Shakopee; life-long friend, Stephani Eberhardt; other relatives and friends

Mickey is preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Jerry Vohnoutka; parents, Demitro and Maria; sister, Stephanie; brothers/sisters-in- law, Dan Vohnoutka and Roman (Josie) Vohnoutka.

Pall bearers for Mickey will be Bill, Ed, Tama, John, Dawn, and Megan. Her honorary pall bearers will be the Birthday Club Gals.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, March 29 at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior all at the Church of St. Mark 350 South Atwood Street, Shakopee. Father Thomas Merrill will officiate. Mickey will be laid to rest next to her husband at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

Memorials preferred and will be distributed by the family in Mickey’s memory.
