Michael D. Saville, of Shakopee, passed away suddenly at the age of 48. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother & friend.
A visitation will be held Friday, February 15, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM with a Time of Sharing at 6:30 PM. Celebration of Life Service is Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM with visitation one-hour prior. All services will be held at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (833 S. Marschall Road) in Shakopee. Pastor Jim Scheely will preside, Dan Feidt will deliver the eulogy and music will be provided by Dan & Karlene Feidt and Dave & Irene Gottwald. Pallbearers for Mike will be Barry Ahlsten, Conzello Barnhill, John Burkard, Brandon Hoechst, Michael Huska, Michael Lindgren, Rich Orcutt and Al Purves. Memorials are preferred and will be distributed by Mike’s family in his honor.
On March 15, 1970, Dwight & Carol (Koch) Saville celebrated the birth of their son. Michael Dwight Saville. He was the oldest of five children and loved being a big brother to Tracy, Amy, Kristen and Loralie. Mike grew up on the Saville family farm in Braddock, ND. He developed a strong work ethic during his time on the tractor and working cattle. Mike loved his adventures (and had the scars to prove it). He enjoyed riding horses, snowmobiling, 3-wheelers, and figuring out how things worked – he even repaired an old car of his dad’s so it ran again. He was in many activities throughout high school that included 4-H, basketball, track and football.
After graduating from high school in 1988, Mike attended Westmar University in Iowa where he earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science. Mike was always a smart kid, but he reached his full potential in college. Mike graduated in 1992 and moved to Minneapolis to begin his long career with computers.
One Memorial Day weekend, Mike attended a party that changed his life. At the party, he met Dawn Burkard over a flaming pot of charred chicken. The two began chatting and hit it off immediately. Mike was persistent, and they fell in love quickly. They were married March 4, 1995 at the Calhoun Beach Club.
Mike and Dawn settled in Shakopee and took some time to focus on their careers. Over the years, Mike worked at Farmers Insurance, AMI Imaging and Allina. He led the imaging systems and document management as a Senior Program Analyst for Allina. Mike loved his work so much. In his spare time, he’d restore and build computers for family and friends.
After a few years of marriage, Mike got the best job of his life when he became a dad. Mike was on Cloud 9 when Alex arrived. He loved being a dad and was so proud of his little girl. With their family complete, Mike & Dawn centered their world around Alex. Mike encouraged her to try every sport and passed on his sense of adventure to his daughter. When Alex became involved in community theatre, Mike was right there to lend a helping hand. He started helping build sets and worked his way up to Vice President of the River Valley Theatre Company. Mike treasured the time he spent in community theatre with Alex
Dawn & Mike loved traveling and took many memorable trips. Some of their favorite destinations were the Solar Eclipse in Nebraska, Virgin Islands, Alaska, Jamaica and a Disney Cruise through the Caribbean. Mike also enjoyed all the time spent at Dawn’s family cabin. In the winter it was a ski cabin in Michigan, and in the summer, they enjoyed water sports on Island Lake. Mike especially loved working on the “Big Boat” which he restored to perfect working condition this past summer.
Mike was a force of positive energy. He was talented in so many different areas and you could count on him for anything. He was adventurous and fearless. Mike had the kindest heart and was a truly wonderful man. He loved his family deeply and lived his life to the fullest. On February 10, 2019, Mike suffered heart failure and passed away unexpectedly.
His legacy will live on in his family and all who loved him. Mike will be remembered always by his loving wife, Dawn Saville; daughter, Alex Saville; sisters, Tracy (Michael) Huska, Amy (Michael) Lindgren, Kristen (Conzello) Barnhill, Loralie (Brandon) Hoechst; in-laws, Bob & Edie Burkard; sister-in-law, Julie (Barry)Ahlsten; other loving relatives and many dear friends. Mike was greeted in Heaven by his parents.

My heart goes out to the Saville family. I had the pleasure of working with Mike for a number of years at AMI, and while we have not kept in close touch, I will always have good memories of our time at the office!
I am so sorry to hear about Mike. He was a kind and sensitive man. Mike helped me so much with hauling props and scenery around the twin Cities while we worked on RVTC plays. His presence was appreciated by us all. My heart goes out to all of your family.
We are so sorry for this tragic loss. Mike was very involved with the bike group and will be missed.

I had the privilege of being Mike’s roommate in college. We immediately formed a friendship and had fun reminiscing about those days from nearly thirty years ago. It is my sincere hope that you may find peace and comfort in the days ahead.
I will cherish our friendship, Mike.
My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends. May you find some comfort in the promise found in Revelation 21: 3-4 and 1Thessalonians 4:14. Knowing that there is an opportunity to be reunited with loved ones.
I worked with Mike, I know him from having lunch in the lunch room with his fellow teammates. Mike was kind and inclusive in nature. I enjoyed listening to him talking with his fellow teammates about work and his person activities. Mike will be missed!
My heart goes out to you all right now in your time of loss. I had the privilege to work with Mike at Allina and will miss him and our breakroom chats. His passing is such a shock, and I know we at Allina will feel that loss for a long time to come – I can’t even imagine how much more that is true for those who were closest to him. I pray you will find peace in the days and weeks ahead and that the Lord brings you comfort in the midst of your grief.
I am so very sorry and so sad to hear about this. Mike was such a kind man. I will miss him so much during the mountain bike season. He always came over to our team with kind and encouraging words to everyone. The races will not be the same without him there. Alex, my heart breaks for you.
I had the opportunity to work with Mike on numerous occasions at Allina. He was always willing to help out where he was able and offered insight and his knowledge to projects. He was a great asset to Allina and will be missed greatly. My condolences to the family as you work through this hard time. Many prayers to you all.
I was so sorry to hear about Mike. I worked with him at Allina for 13 years and he was unbelievably talented. I know I speak for all of Hyland when I say he will be truly missed. He was great to work with!
I got to know Mike through set building for the last few RVTC plays. I quickly learned what a patient and giving man he was. The world will be a little sadder without him in it. My condolences to to the Saville family. I’m so sorry for your sudden loss of him.

Our deepest condolences to Dawn and Alex. It was a pleasure knowing Mike since the Kung Fu and RVTC days and then again through Mountain Biking. It was clear how much of a loving and giving father he was. Mike always greeted us with smiles and laughs and made everyone feel like a true friend. He will be greatly missed. I knew Mike for many years thru high school after we met at Wesley Acres one summer. We kept in touch for a long time and i heard about his passing from my mom who know knows his sisters thru her church in Bismarck. Small world. Iwish you peace, and will be thinking of your family.
Dawn & Alex- We are deeply sorry for your loss. Our family enjoyed getting to know Mike and your family during mountain biking. We saw how much Mike cared for everyone around him, through his words and actions. He always had a kind word or words of encouragement to everyone he spoke to, and was always the one to raise his hand when kids needed rides etc. When speaking to Mike during our long days at the races, when he spoke of Alex, you could always see how much he loved her and how proud he was of her for her skills in Mountain biking, skiing and her acting/singing abilities etc. etc…. We will miss him at the races and the conversations with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and with your family.

We sure love Mike! Beyond the bike team (with so many great memories) was hearing this familiar laugh at the Shakopee Schools District Offices – I had to see if it was him, so out of place for what I was expecting…but there he was & when he saw me – open arms for a great hug!
I love the laugh, hugs, and great attitude Mike had – I see it in Alex. True friends come in unexpected places and stay forever in our hearts.
My sympathy to Mike’s family. I always enjoyed eating lunch and talking with him over many years at Allina. I’ll miss seeing him in the hallways and the lunchroom.

I knew Mike from working with him at AMI for several years and we’ve been in touch off and on since then. Mike and I clicked right away and I enjoyed worked with him through that time. Over the years since then, I would see his many posts helping others out and sharing his vast knowledge and expertise in the work community. From working with Mike, he was a critical member of the team and it was a big loss when he went to Allina. The Allina team was so very lucky to have him these past years. Mike had such a wonderful sense of humor and always had an opinion whether we wanted to hear it or not…and in the best of ways!! I really loved that about Mike.
He will be missed by everyone very much. I just can’t say enough good things about having the pleasure to know Mike and be a small part of his life.
Our hearts break for all of you. So sorry for the loss of Mike. We pray that God will wrap you in his arms and hold all of you.

I knew Michael from his early years in Braddock – specifically the Braddock United Methodist Church. He was a kind person who will be greatly missed.
I am so sorry for your loss. I was one of the OnBase trainers who got to work with Mike for a number of training classes and he was always helpful, friendly, and just plain fun. My condolences to the family and friends at this difficult time. He will not be forgotten.

Dawn, Alex, and Family— We were shocked and saddened to hear of Mike’s untimely passing. The Shakopee Mountain Bike Family has lost one of the original and best cheerleaders and helpers in our pit. Our team is fortunate for the many fine memories of Mike cracking jokes and having a great time supporting Alex and the team at races or after practice. Our pit will be a bit quieter, but we’ll always remember Mike’s cheerfulness, his wit, and being quick to lend a helping hand.

Saville Family ~ I was shocked and saddened learning about Michael’s passing; so very sorry for your loss. Michael was such a good person and it was obvious how much he loved his family. I am grateful to have seen him last summer at our class reunion. Take comfort in the fact you will see him again!
I had a pleasure working with Mike at AMI. He was the first person gave me the insight and exposure to Networking. Deeply saddened by Mike’s passing. My condolences and sympathy with entire Saville family. Back then Mike had created a complex password for me and I still use that with some variation. We will miss you Mike!
