Mary Ann Hutchinson-Hobson-Chittick

A resident of Prior Lake, Mary Ann Hutchinson-Hobson-Chittick, was 90, when she passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, September 10, 2014, with her family present at her Keystone Communities bedside, in Prior Lake, MN. A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 5 pm, with visitation starting at 3 pm, all at Zion United Methodist Church 1026 East. 205th Street. SE, Jordan, MN. Reverend Larry Kasten will preside. There will be an additional Celebration of Life Service on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 2 pm, with a visitation starting at 1 pm, all at Marquisville United Methodist Church, 5345 NE 14th Street, Des Moines, IA. Reverend James Hobson will preside. Mary Ann will be laid to rest next to her husband at Highland Memorial Gardens, in Des Moines, IA.

On September 15, 1923, in Des Moines, Iowa, Mary Ann was born the second of five children to parents, George and Mary Ellen (Warnock) Hutchinson. As a family, many countless hours were spent raising and harvesting the vegetables from the garden, milking the two cows, picking apples and completing other tasks along the way. It was as a young girl the life-long passion of vegetable gardening was instilled.

Graduating from Woodside School in Des Moines, IA, Mary Ann worked as a school secretary for a short time, until taking on the duties as a wife and mother. In her later years, she worked as a book keeper for about 20 years.

In 1942, at Marquisville Evangelical United Brethren Church in Marquisville, IA, Mary Ann married Robert Hobson. They were blessed with three children, Bob, George and Judy. Most of their years were spent in Des Moines, enjoying camping, fishing and boating. She especially relished the trips fishing in Minnesota, Canada and Alaska. In later years, Mary Ann also enjoyed visiting her son, George in Alaska.

Life changed for Mary Ann when Bob passed away in 1961. In 1975, she married Harley Chittick, at High Park Christian Church. She found herself once again a widow, as Harley passed in 1988. In 2000, Mary Ann moved to Prior Lake, MN, to help raise her great-grandchild and to be closer to her family.

Mary Ann was a member of the Sweet Adeline Choir and enjoyed competitions all over the country. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a woman’s group in Olin, IA. In her spare time, Mary Ann enjoyed needle point, stamping, sewing and macramé. Her love for tending to her flowers and garden, nurturing and harvesting the fruits of her labor continued throughout life.

A kind, caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mary Ann enjoyed life to the fullest and this was apparent through her great laugh. She was a faithful servant of the Lord, who took great interest in people’s lives she encounter.

Left to honor Mary Ann’s life and mourn the death are her children, Bob (special friend, Jean) Hobson, George (special friend, Susan) Hobson, Judy (Charles) Evans; grandchildren, Bob Hobson, Mike Hobson, Julie Hindermann, Tracy Hobson, Christine Hobson; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Hobson, Aundreya Hobson; step-children, John (Mary) Chittick, Richard (Nancy) Chittick, Jane (Don) Morken, Ann (Mike) Fox, David (Chris) Chittick; many, many step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Jeannette Charles; sister-in-law, Betty Hutchinson; other loving relatives and devoted friends.

Preceded in death and there to welcome Mary Ann home in heaven are her husbands, Robert Hobson and Harley Chittick; siblings, Paul (Irene) Hutchinson, Reid Hutchinson, Georgia Mae (Dale) Berkenbosch; and brother-in-law, Rev. William Charles.
