Marlin’s life story

Marlin “Marly” P. Hennen

On Saturday, February 11, 1939 in New Prague, MN, Marlin Patrick was born to parents Florentine and Margaret (Devine) Hennen. He was the second of six children. Marly’s childhood years were mostly spent growing up on a farm near Lydia.

Marlin married Sheryl Sebo on August 22, 1975 at Lydia Zion United Methodist Church. They were blessed with two sons, Mitchell and Marshall. A house, a business and a family became part of their lives. Grandchildren, Paul and Mara were added blessing to the family.

Marly served in the United States Navy. He was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal, where he loaded bombs. Earning a degree in meat cutting in Toledo, Ohio, Marly was a butcher at Enggrens in Lakeville. He also worked at the glass plant in Shakopee and for Northwest Bituminous. Most of Marly’s career was spent in construction. He worked for many years at Bonsack and Hennen Excavating in Prior Lake. Starting his own excavating business, Marly enjoyed doing jobs with his dump truck and bobcats.

Particular about his yard, Marly always mowed his six areas of grass, regardless of the height. He enjoyed tinkering in the yard and in the shed. For many years, Marly owned a variety of horses, which he deeply enjoyed. He treasured the family pet dogs and cats. Marly enjoyed watching NASCAR, collecting model cars and watching the RFD TV Channel. He loved to tease people and brought smiles with his one liners.

A charter member of the Credit River Tractor Club, Marly owned many small tractors. He loved attending auctions and sales socializing and finding that special deal.

A tender-heart and selfless individual, Marly was a dedicated husband, dad and grandpa. The morning of Thursday, September 5, 2013, Marly, passed away peacefully and entered God’s arms, after a heroic battle with cancer, at the age of 74, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague, MN .
