Marilyn Vallez

Marilyn R. Vallez, age 89 of Prior Lake, passed away peacefully in her home on September 12, 2019. On February 6, 1930 in Bay City, Michigan, parents Bernard and Ruth (Lamoreaux) Ward celebrated the birth of their daughter, the youngest of four children.

In her youth, Marilyn enjoyed ballet and music and would often attend the opera with her parents. She also shared many fond memories of her long summers at the family Linwood cottage on Lake Huron. During her high school years, Marilyn had eyes for the star football player, Jim Vallez. After courting for four years, the young couple exchanged wedding vows at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bay City, MI on Sept 23, 1950, and shared their lives until Jim’s passing in 1995.

During their early years, they lived in Alabama and Connecticut, and finally settling in Minneapolis in 1953 with two young children. They continued to grow their family and in 1971 built their country dream home on Marschall Road in Spring Lake Township. They loved to entertain, and Marilyn excelled in her cooking skills. Some favorite family vacation spots for the Vallez gang were Waverly, MN, Naples, FL, and Ely, MN. While Jim was often seen as the adventurous half, Marilyn took her solo flight to be his partner in the air. She enjoyed scuba diving, skiing, and fishing adventures, but her first loves were her faith and her family. Marilyn volunteered in many ways in her community, took in children and guests from around the world, and was very politically active.

Marilyn is loved and missed by her 9 children and 34 grandchildren and their spouses: Marie and Dave Allen, children Laura, Christopher (Jill), Nathan; Mike Vallez, children Rebecca, Michael (Jeff), David, Anna, and his fiancée, Nancy Halden; Dee Dee Vallez; Jim and Cindi Vallez, children Lisa (Dave), Kevin (Laura), Sarah (Matt), Marie (Ron); Laura and Pat Diamond, children Brian (Lisa), James (Rachel), Sean (Megan), Joseph, Patrick, Mary, Eileen, Andrew, Thomas, and William; Paul Vallez, children John (Brittany) and Maggie; Tom and Jodi Vallez, children Lauren, Maria, Thomas, and Catherine; Martha and Mark Allen, children Marilyn, Lucy, Vincent, and Luke; Katie Morlock, children Levi and Gracie. She was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren: Emerson, Nola, Cora, Jon, Amelia, Ethan, Spencer, Kellan, Landon, Savannah, Sophia, Jake, Addison, Ellie, Everett, Benjamin, and Theodore.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband James; parents, Bernard and Ruth; siblings, George (Alice) Ward, Wilson (Shirley) Ward, Eleanor (Albert) Richardson, and her grandson, Christopher Diamond.

The funeral mass will be held on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 11AM with a visitation beginning at 9:30 AM, all at St. Michael Catholic Church, Prior Lake. Father Tom Walker will preside. Marilyn will be laid to rest at Lakewood Cemetery in a private burial. Memorials preferred to Sharing and Caring Hands. Website: sharingandcaringhands.org.

I have so many wonderful memories of Marilyn that make me smile. Every time I saw her, she would smile and say ” Oh hi honey” and then give a big hug and kiss. One memory that comes to mind often, she used to get so mad when I came over to hang out with Katie and Martha and I would bring Schultz (our dog) and Schultz would get into a little “trouble” and your mom would yell “you go home now” at her and your dad would laugh. I will miss her. Sending prayers to your family.
Love
Heidi VonBokern

Carol and I wish to send our sincere sympathy and condolences to Marie, Jeanne (Dee Dee), Martha, Laura,
Katie, Jim, Mike, Tom and Paul and their families on the passing of their mother and my dear aunt Marilyn R.
Vallez. Our thoughts and prayers are with you ALL and y our mother as well. She was a kind and gentle person with a heart full of compassion and love. Your mother was 11 years older than myself and when I was a small child she was my primary babysitter. I fondly remember both your father and mother and some of you when I spent most weekends at the York Street home.I will miss her as well as we have communicated many times a year through cards, telephone and email. The Bernard and Ruth Ward children have all departed this earth and are reunited in Heaven but their memories will last a lifetime. Rest in peace Auntie. You’re in good hands, the hands of GOD. We will be making a donation once the information is posted.

Celebrated on many occasions, including birthdays, ours and our children’s. I’ll never forget our many fishing trips, especially the ones in Ely and Florida.

Condolence from Valerie Kegley on September 14th, 2019 7:13 am

Dear Marie, Mike, Dee-Dee, Jim, Laura, Tom, Paul, Martha and Katie:
Your mother was admired for the way in which she lived her life with dignity, grace, humility, holiness, honesty and filled with love. What a lovely lady and one that I was proud to call my Aunt Marilyn. Not to mention that she was The Queen of Scrabble! My Dad, your Uncle Wilson, always spoke so highly of her and his love for her. I am so glad that they are reunited. My Aunt Marilyn will live on through all of you and your children and grandchildren. This family matriarch has left quite a challenge for all of us to live up to . May her memories and stories keep you laughing while you are wiping away the tears.
My sincerest sympathy, prayers and love are with you all.
Your Pennsylvania cousin, Valerie Ward Kegley

Dear Marie, Michael, DeeDee, Jimbo, Laura, Tom, Paul, Martha, and Katie,
May God heal all your broken hearts as you mourn the passing of your Mother. Aunt Marilyn was just the sweetest and kindest of most people I know. What a blessing she was to this world. Please know that I’m thinking of all of you during this sad time. I find peace knowing she’s been reunited with Uncle Jim, her parents, and brothers and sister. My Dad was a lot like Aunt Marilyn in a lot of ways….they both liked being silly at times and had a great sense of humor….at the same time a strong faith in God. Your whole family is in my prayers. God bless all of you. With Love, Amy Ward Periard ( and Gary)

Dear Vallez family, even though I have not seen your mother in recent years there are such fond memories of her. She was so engaged in the school life at St. Michael’s School while all of you were in school, and was such a deep faith-filled woman. The memories of her and all of you are still with me. Know you remain in my love and prayers especially as you move through these grieving days.

DeeDee: I am so sorry for your loss!
It is a total coincidence that I saw your mother’s obit in the Star and Tribune as I was searching for a friend from U of Minnesota. Also a great coincidence that your mom is from Bay City since I grew up in Saginaw.

thanks. sorry. I suppose I have grown suspicious. I see scam of all sorts, and thought it’s not beneath scammers to attack an obituary. I’ll ask Ballard-Sunder if they can remove my comment.
