The amazing life of Lorrie Freund Hinkle was suddenly and unexpected taken away from her beloved family, from an infection, on Thursday afternoon at St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Shakopee, MN. She was only 62 years old and was a long-time resident of the Shakopee Community.
A time of gathering will be held on Tuesday, April 17 from 4-7 pm and on Wednesday, April 18 from 10-10:50 am prior to the Celebration of Life Service at 11 am, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation 833 S. Marschall Road, Shakopee. Pastor Gary Kinkel from St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Shakopee will preside, with Lorrie’s nieces and nephews as urn bearers. She will be laid to rest by her parents at Pleasant View Memorial Garden, Burnsville, MN.
John William and Patricia Ann (Ryan) Freund were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, they named Lorrie Lee, born on January 25, 1956, in Minneapolis, MN. She would be the second of four children. Lorrie was a happy baby. Yet, her parents knew Lorrie’s life was going to be filled with countless trials and tribulations, for she was born with no arms. Yet throughout her life this challenge made her stronger, independent and she never considered herself as disabled.
In 1958, Lorrie’s family moved to Shakopee, where she loved to follow in her dad’s shadow. Lorrie loved to attend and watch his baseball games, follow behind on the golf course and began a lifelong love for sports. Lorrie didn’t have the traditional childhood. She was eventually fitted with artificial arms. Lorrie enjoyed attending camps at the Courage Center, where she never felt judged. Lorrie attended Marshall High School in Minneapolis, MN (a school for physical needs students) and later graduated in 1975.
Lorrie furthered her education at Hennepin Vo-Tech. She took this knowledge and committed the next 42 years as a phone operator for First Bank, now known as US Bank. Lorrie relished the lifelong friendship formed through her career especially the friendship of Patty.
Through mutual friends, Lorrie’s life was enriched by meeting Grindle Dean Hinkle Jr. They were perfect for each other! On April 30, 1994 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran, Shakopee, MN, Lorrie and Grindle wedded. They each brought special qualities to the marriage, which made it the perfect union. Lorrie and Grindle always surrounded themselves with family, which were priceless moments in their lives. They both shared a love for animals of all sorts; cats, dogs, fish, birds and especially the love for Griffin, her service dog.
Lorrie lived life to the fullest. She was a true inspiration to those she met, especially people with physical needs. There was nothing Lorrie couldn’t seem to conquer, with the exception of cooking. She was an amazing artist, earned a Red Belt with a Black Strip in Karate and was a meticulous housekeeper. Lorrie loved to attend adult courage center camps and even enjoyed playing floor hockey for many years. She loved swimming, reading murder mysteries and taking walks.
A true heart of gold, Lorrie’s generosity and unconditional love was felt by many. She was a very strong and independent woman, who wanted to make it on her own. She had a great sense of humor and even had a mischievous side to her, especially when it came to her siblings.
Forever loved, Lorrie will be missed by husband, Grindle Hinkle; daughter, Angela Scott; siblings, Chris (Dave) Angell, Linn (Philip) Knutson, Jerry Freund, Jack (Maureen) Freund; nieces and nephews, Chad (Melissa) Grimmer, James Grimmer, Melissa Grimmer, Rachel Freund, Ashley Freund, Justin Freund, Christopher (Kim) Freund, Courtney Freund, Seth (Kim) Angell, Jessica (Garry) Allen; several great-nieces and nephews; uncle, Bob (Vivian) Freund; aunts, Joan (Doug) Wilson, Betty Fogarty; many relatives and friends.
Lorrie wrapped her arms around those waiting in heaven, especially her parents, John and Patricia Freund; grandparents; brother-in-law, Jim Grimmer; special cousin, Brian Freund and other relatives.

Lots of great memories spending time with Lorrie at Camp Courage. Endless laughter and fun which I’ll never forget. She is truly going to be missed. My condolences to her family.
So very sorry for your loss of Lorrie. She was a ray of sunshine every time we saw her. We always had such a nice visit with the RUSSELL gals when we got together it wasn’t that often but whenever we did meet we had such good times. Lorrie had a hard life but came through it all ok, and now is on her last journey home to be with her mom and dad again. God Bless you Lorrie you were an inspiration to all of us that knew you. I have great memories of Lorrie from her year at Camp Courage and playing floor hockey at Marshall. She was an independent person who loved being active and helping without ever being asked. A wonderful person. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Broken hearted for those left behind and trusting Lorrie is snuggled in with Uncle John and Aunt Pat, surrendering with pure peace. She was loved completely. Prayers and love to all of you as you celebrate her life on Wednesday.

I had the joy of having Lorrie on my team at USBANK . She was very dedicated to her job and cared about her USBANK family. I will certainly miss her. Lorrie loved to walk and would walk the floor during her breaks.
I have had so many of her USBANK family come over with quick stories about Lorrie. She touched many of us and we will think of her often.
Lorrie has been my best friend for nearly 32 years. In fact, she has been more like a sister than a friend. We have been there for each other in both happy times as well as sad times, and I can hardly even imagine my life without her. I want to thank God for blessing me with the most wonderful friend anyone could ever hope to have. You will be in my heart forever, Lorrie.

I had the pleasure of knowing Lorrie as well, as I too worked with her for multiple years. She will be dearly missed. She was a very courageous and positive person. She inspired me and will continue to inspire me! I will share with my daughters her story and her accomplishments as she is a role model on how to live your life, even when challenged, with a positive outlook. I was blessed to have known Lorrie. Many prayers and thoughts to the family.
As a teacher at Marshall-University High School in Minneapolis at the time Lorrie was a student there, I was
very surprised and deeply saddened to hear of her passing. I recall that she took her studies seriously and developed a skill set that, combined with her winning personality, went a long way in a successful career at the bank. Lorrie was an extremely valuable member of the school’s floor hockey team, whose games I had the opportunity to watch on many occasions, and she was an awesome competitor. But, she had an equally kind and generous side that her family and friends no doubt appreciated and will miss for quite some time to come. You have suffered a great loss, but I hope that the multitude of memories you have of Lorrie will en-able her to live on in your hearts going forward. I remember that she loved the Christmas season; so, I’ll bet
she will be there in spirit when you celebrate the holiday for many years hereafter . My condolences . . .
I only knew Lorrie in passing and a great “Good Morning” every day. But, her positivity and smile brightened every day, even in remembering today. My families prayers go out to her family.
I was very saddened to hear of Lorrie passing.many of us drivers from metro mobility have had the opportunity to transport Lorrie to her place of employment in St Paul .we told stories had some great laughs,watched Lorrie sleep due to long ride everyday!
