Lorraine’s life story

Lorraine Marie Snell was born on April 28, 1929 to parents Emil and Lillian (Ebel) Oldenburg in Lydia. She was the oldest of four children. Lorraine’s childhood years were spent growing up on the family farm with her brother, Delbert and 2 sisters, Marion and Eunice. She attended country school in Lydia.

Lorraine married Lorenz Snell on June 18, 1947 in Spring Lake Township. Together they raised 5 daughters: Margaret, Judy, Linda, Bonnie and Lori. The family enjoyed family outings in their camper on French Lake in Faribault. Lorraine’s husband, Lorenz died in November of 1986 after 39 years of marriage.

Lorraine worked at Control Data for 34 years and retired at age 65. She was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. Lorraine enjoyed travel, knitting and embroidery. She was very involved in her church, Messiah Lutheran Church in Lakeville and was an active member of Lydia Circle. Lorraine was a very kind and caring person who loved to be with people. She enjoyed dominos and loved to win!

At the age of 83 and a resident of Prior Lake, Lorraine passed away peacefully in the presence of her family and entered God’s arms on Tuesday afternoon, January 29, 2013 at Fairview Ridges Hospital, Burnsville.

Forever loved, Lorraine will be deeply missed by her children: Margaret (Richard) Engelson, Prior Lake, Judy (Merlin) Rockow, Prior Lake, Linda Haugen, Albert Lea, Bonnie Broden, Albert Lea, Lori (Tim) Albright, Prior Lake; 8 grandchildren: Vernon Wood, Eric Bettermann, Chris Broden, Jeff Haugen, Jed Albright, Josh Albright, Tina Broden Hoy, and Melissa Engelson; 12 great grandchildren: Lexi, Paige, Josie, Hannah, Emma Cate, Chloe, Simon, Hadley, Zachary, Emily, Alex, and Abby; one brother: Delbert (Sue) Oldenburg, Prior Lake; two sisters: Marion (Sheldon) Sindelar, Prior Lake and Eunice (Fred) Washa, Austin, Texas and many other loving relatives and friends.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband Lorenz; son-in-law, Bruce Broden; grandson, Matthew Haugen; and companion Don Klingberg.

Pallbearers for Lorraine will be her grandsons: Vernon Wood, Eric Bettermann, Chris Broden, Jeff Haugen, Jed Albright and Josh Albright. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Tina Broden Hoy and Melissa Engelson.

Funeral service will be Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service at Messiah Lutheran Church, Lakeville, MN. Pastor Bob Schulze will officiate.

Lorraine will be laid to rest next to her husband Lorenz at Fish Lake Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Prior Lake.

The Snell family is served with honor, care and compassion by Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Prior Lake Chapel.
