On October 4, 1929, in Minneapolis, MN, Lorraine Elizabeth was born to Thomas and Hazel (Martyn) Hannon. Intelligent and determined, she entered college at the age of 16. Lorraine took her education and had a long and successful career as an editor for medical journals.

Lorraine filled her days with many passions. She was a talented knitter, creating precious masterpieces for her nieces, nephews and even the great nieces and nephews. Lorraine was an avid reader, enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and dominated the game of Scribbage. She especially enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Gophers and Vikings, and even sharing her political views, at times. Lorraine found great joy spending quiet time tending to her flower gardens. Her home was always filled with plants and fresh flowers. Even thou Lorraine did not have any children of her own, she felt very connected to her nieces and nephews, with remaining active in their lives.

Forever loved and missed by brother, Stan (Dee) Hannon; nieces and nephews, Steve Hannon, Mike (Dorothy) Hannon, Barb (Dale) Pittman, Carol (David) Hannon-Orr, Tom Hannon, Kathy (Doug) Strecker, David (Kari) Anderson, Bob (Val) Anderson, Paul (Becky) Anderson, Sue (Steve) Zastrow; many great nieces, nephews and friends.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn (Robert) Anderson and nephew, Terry Hannon.

I worked with Lorraine at Modern Medicine magazine in the 1950s and 1960s. She was an editor of consummate skill. That she had such a long life is gratifying.

Thank you for your note. I came across some papers from her work when she was promoted to an assistant editor

Lorraine was an extra aunt to me while I was growing into adulthood. She and my Aunt Eleanor Hanson lived together all of my life until my aunt’s passing in 1984, when Eleanor was only 56. The two of them excitedly followed my musical development, driving to Cambridge for all of my piano recitals and to Oberlin College in Ohio in 1971 for my college graduation. My memory is faulty now, but I also played the organ for the wedding of one of Lorraine’s nieces or nephews, but I don’t remember their name anymore. I have several old photos of Lorraine at some of these events, which I would be happy to share, though it looks like uploading photos is not an option on this site. I only learned of Lorraine’s passing today from one of Eleanor’s nieces.

Goodness. More memories from even earlier, when the two of them together would take an assortment of their nieces and nephews to the Shrine Circus – how ever many would fit into the car (with no seat belts, so crowding was possible. This would have been around 1955. I also remember vividly the year I had mumps and had to stay home from the circus outing that year. I was heartbroken.

I was Lorraine’s order taker for her Store to door Cub food delivery. I enjoyed our conversations as I took her order each month. She would keep a running grocery list for herself and always have one big order at the end of each month. I am sorry to hear of her passing. My sympathies to all her family.
