A life-long resident of Jordan, Loren H. Jabs, was 95, when he entered God’s arms, on Friday afternoon, December 18, 2015, at the Lutheran Home, in Belle Plaine, MN. Living a simple life, he was blessed with a deep faith in God, a strong bond with his family and friends, and humble service to others.

The family will greet guests on Monday, December 21 from 4-7 pm, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation, 104 West First Street, Jordan and also one hour prior to the service. A Celebration of Life Service will be Tuesday, December 22 at 11 am, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 100 Sixth Street West, Jordan. Pastor Jeremy Glowicki will preside. Pall bearers will be Alfred Schectman, Rachel Schectman, John Fedele, David Schlauderaff, James Rook, and Glen Stenlund. Loren will be laid to rest with his wife, Rosalia at Spirit Hill Cemetery, Jordan, MN.

Loren Henry was born to parents Carl and Louise (Buckentine) Jabs on March 28, 1920 in Jordan, MN.

Being the third of eight, he had a deep love for his family, farming, and being entrusted with the care of God’s earth. Growing up during the depression years, Loren attended school in Scott County, graduated from the eighth grade, staying close to home assisting his parents in the success of the farm.

As a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Walther League (a youth group), Loren met the love of his life, Rosalia Caroline Schlauderaff. Before God, they were united in marriage on November 15, 1945 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jordan, MN. Loren and Rosalia spent the first several years of their marriage farming. After moving into Jordan, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Carol Ann.

Loren and Rosalia went into the business of farmland drainage, with partner Peter Schmitt. For many years, they were proud to operate the Scott County Tiling Company. After retiring, Loren spent countless hours in his shop, building birdhouses, furniture, and other wooden decorative items. He also had a thriving “sharpening” business and enjoyed interesting conversations with all his customers. All his life, Loren enjoyed being outdoors, working hard, and helping others.

The greatest accomplishment in Loren’s life was being a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and brother. He cherished the time he spent with his family. Loren enjoyed fishing with his family in the waters of Lake Minnetonka and Fish Lake. His granddaughter Rachel, has fond memories of playing cards and checker games, going to the park, sledding, and sitting next to grandpa fishing. His granddaughter, Rachel, remembers her grandpa spending all his time putting worms on the hook and taking fish off the hook, so “grandpa never got to fish because he was so busy helping everyone else”.

Blessed with a life of 95 years, Loren was a man of strong faith and principles, committed to his church, St. Paul’s Lutheran. Over the years, he served as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, as well as, other leadership responsibilities in the church. Loren was also active in civic organizations and service to the Jordan community.

Left to honor Loren’s life and mourn his death is beloved daughter, Carol and husband, Alfred Schectman of Wilmette, IL; cherished granddaughter, Rachel Schectman; brother, Ray (Arlene) Jabs; sisters, Lorraine Uecker, Wilmay (Eldrid) Karnitz, Lyla Karnitz; other loving relatives and devoted friends.

Preceded in death and there to welcome Loren home in heaven is his beloved wife of sixty-eight years, Rosalia; parents, Carl and Louise Jabs; brother, Charles Jabs; sisters, Doris (Jerry) Kromer, Louise (Elmer) Fehlandt; brothers-in-law, Emil Karnitz, Alvin Uecker.
