A longtime resident of the community in Prior Lake, MN, Loren ‘Bump” Weum, age 67, passed away peacefully October 20, 2017, at his home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 11 am, with a time of gathering starting at 9:30 am, both at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN. Jean Breeggemann will lead the service and Bumps son, Shannon will be the urn bearer. Military honors will be provided by the Prior Lake V.F.W. Post 6208 Honor Guard.

In Albert Lea, MN, Bump was born on April 7, 1950, to parents, Alf and Alice (Nelson) Weum. He grew up in Albert Lea with his four sisters, Linda , Karen , Sonya and Marcia . Graduating from Albert Lea Senior High School, Bump enlisted into the United States Navy, where he served four years on the U.S.S. American, during the Vietnam War. Following in his father’s footsteps, Bump earned an associate’s and later a bachelor’s degree as an Electrician. He was in the IBEW Union (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). Bump was proud of all the buildings throughout the metro area, that he helped build.

Bump had many passions, with one being bare foot water skiing. An extremely talented skier, he even made appearances in water skiing shows in Prior Lake. Bump spent countless hours on the water practicing his craft. But on July 4, 1987, while preforming in a show for the Prior Lake community, his world changed, when Bump broke his neck in accident. This accident took away everything that Bump loved. He had to relearn everything, but with determination and persistence, Bump continued living a full life. He eventually sold his home on Spring Lake and bought a home on Prior Lake, with making modification allowing him to live independently.

After the accident, Bump found new interests. He became a CPA. Bump took a fond interest in indoor gardening. He had such a green thumb raising beautiful orchids, cactus, ivy and many other plants. In Bump’s spare time, he loved to volunteer at the Minnesota Zoo in the butterfly and bird areas. Bump took so much pride in his work at the zoo. He loved his cats, especially Kitty Punk.

Bump too was a proud father to Shannon and grandpa to Sierra and Jordan. He had such a blast with his granddaughters and loved to tease them. Bump was filled with lots of knowledge and his granddaughter found that helpful when completing school projects.

Bump’s life was filled with trials and tribulations. He was determined to survive and despite his medical condition, Bump persevered!!! But along the way, he had extra support and companionship of some great friends! Scott and Joyce Bruer would shop for Bump every Monday. They and Mike and Barb Baldwin, would tend to the general maintenance of the home and other tasks that needed to be completed. Then there are Barb and Christa, his aids of yester years, that always went above and beyond. Bump was never one to say thank you, but deep down, he appreciated everything that was done.

His character of being strong willed and maybe even a little tough around the edges, Bump meant well. He was one that pushed you to make you tough. For Bump should know. He had this great sense of humor and at times maybe a little out there!

Bump is survived by son, Shannon (Wendy) Weum; granddaughters, Sierra Weum, Jordan Weum; sisters, Linda (Lee) Schrepel, Karen (Jim) Meyering, Marcia (Tom) Baker; other relatives and friends.

There to welcome Bump home are his parents, Alf and Alice; sister, Sonya and grandparents.
