WEB LoRaine

With a FLAIR, that’s how we will remember her—our Grandma Fonnier.

LoRaine E. (Tieben) Fonnier, 96 years old, passed away December 20, 2017.

Grandma had a sterling flair—you could actually see it, you could aspire to it—and the aroma (of it) was unforgettably comforting.

She put a flair on everything: from lipstick & bangles to goulash & french toast, varnish & tins to antiques & decor—and even—denim & turtlenecks.

Along with her creative spirit, Grandma held tight to a cinder that burned within—on December 20th, that cinder extinguished upon the snows of 303 Christmas memories—and now, Grandma rests with a sterling shine.

On July 1, 1921 in Shakopee, MN, LoRaine was first born of three children—brother Henry Jr. “Bud” Tieben and sister Jane Ruppert—to parents, Henry and Hazel (Dunham) Tieben. She married Ed Fonnier in Shakopee, MN where they raised a close family and built memories at their 303 W. 1st Avenue home.

LoRaine’s four daughters: Judy, Lorrie, Gwen & Gaynor and son: Eddie, along with their families, remain tightly knit and enjoy frequent gatherings—Judy & Jim Case, Lorrie & Al DuBois, Gwen & Dick Raduenz, Gaynor Aslakson & Russ Case, and Eddie & Wendy (White) Fonnier.

She was boastful of all her grandkids—15 grandkids: Mitchell DuBois (Lonette), Veronica Case, Rhona Cronquist (Clark), Jessica Case (Kevin), Heidi Smith (Chris), Eric Aslakson (Liz), Ted Aslakson (Debra), Jane Culshaw (Dean), Hans Case (Peg), Tony DuBois (Amy), Katherine Pass (Eric), Greta Burandt (Dan), Lisa Raduenz, Anna Fonnier (Kenny), and Laura Fonnier (Rodney). Grandma kept a tally on them all, including the 35 great-grandkids and the 7 great-great grandkids!

In our hearts and memories are Great-grandma & grandpa Tieben, Grandpa Ed Fonnier, Ozzie, Noah, Bud & Barb, Ray and Lauren

We wish a big “thanks loads” to the caring & understanding staff at the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home.

We will forever cherish Grandma’s butter-filled recipes, we will proudly display her beautifully restored wooden treasures & perfectly blended accents—we will even try to keep the coffee hot and the glass jar full of pretzels.

Her FLAIR will remain for all of us to embrace!

Private family services will be held at a later date.

My sympathy to all. I have such beautiful memories of both Ed & LoRaine growing up as neighbors. They were both very special people and I know you will miss her dearly.

Condolence from Chuck and Rita Mae Pass on December 28th, 2017 3:43 pm

LoRaine and Ed were our neighbors for many years. They both were so good, you just couldn’t ask for nicer people. LoRaine made the best potato salad, and that lady could take a run-down, beat up, piece of pine furniture and breath into it new life by refinishing. No job was too much, and when it was completed, it was perfect. Her warm home was filled with many antiques. Countless hours of sanding and varnishing, but she always had time to put on the coffee pot with fresh baked cookies if some-one stopped. To the family, you have our deepest sympathies. She was a great lady and everyone is going to miss her.
