Lloyd A. Rahn, of Prior Lake, passed away after complications from a surgery on June 1, 2017. He was 74 years old. A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM with a memorial service at 7:00 PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation in Prior Lake. Pastor Paul Olson will preside and Jackie Howe will perform a musical selection.

On August 11,1942, Lloyd Alfred Rahn was born to parents, Alfred and Hilda Rahn. Lloyd was a younger brother to Marlene and Dorene. He grew up in Eagan on his family’s dairy farm where he developed a strong work ethic that served him well through his life. Lloyd graduated from Sibley High School and furthered his education at the Dunwoody Institute. Lloyd quickly completed his schooling in auto body and was a skilled technician.

As a young man, Lloyd met a charming young woman named Carol Vatke when his friend “accidentally” backed his car into Carol’s friend’s car. This was a nice excuse for the guys to introduce themselves to the girls. Even though Lloyd was a farm boy and Carol was a city slicker, they hit it off immediately. They exchanged wedding vows at St. James Lutheran Church in Mendota Heights on October 13, 1962.

When they were first married, Carol and Lloyd lived in Eagan, but they eventually settled in Prior Lake to raise their two children, Mark and Joleen. Lloyd worked hard to provide a good life for his family. He spent many years working as a manager for Service Link and Metal. He later purchased Northedge Auto Body in Northfield. He owned and operated that store for many years before selling the business and becoming an employee of Pro Paint. Lloyd loved cars and knew everything about them. He worked hard in the auto industry, but he played hard too.

As a family, the Rahns enjoyed camping, taking trips in the motorhome, and riding horses. Carol and Lloyd used to go up north with their horses and spend the day riding and enjoying nature. Lloyd also liked boating, snowmobiling and golfing. In retirement, Lloyd spent as much time as he could golfing. This was truly a passion of his, and he loved being out on the links.

A few years ago, Lloyd began dealing with some health issues that limited his mobility. Since he couldn’t golf anymore, Lloyd developed new hobbies. He really liked cooking and became a pretty good chef. Through all of life’s challenges, Lloyd was always a good patient and never complained. He was a tough German and always persevered.

Lloyd was a strong and active man. He was very considerate and always willing to help a friend in need. Lloyd will be deeply missed and remembered always by his wife of 54 years, Carol Rahn; daughter, Joleen (Kris) Selig; grandsons, Jake and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Kayden and Clyde; sisters, Marlene Hass and Dorene Rosvold.

Lloyd was greeted in Heaven by his son, Mark Rahn and parents, Alfred & Hilda Rahn.
