Kurt was born in Shakopee, MN to Roy and Marlys (Luebke) Teich and was the seventh of nine children.

He graduated from Chaska High School in 1974 and with honors from Concordia College (Moorhead) in 1978. Kurt pursued a major in business, and he loved music, so finding a job in Keyboard Sales at Schmitt Music was a perfect fit. Kurt was such a successful salesperson, and he earned many trips around the world. Kurt married Jill Engeswick in 1980 and they had three awesome daughters. He loved his daughters very much and was proud of the women they have become.

Kurt found happiness in playing and singing bluegrass music-guitar and banjo. He was a creative musician who not only performed in several bands, but also wrote songs. Kurt enjoyed his extended family and spending time on the water boating and fishing. He was committed to his faith and was an active member of Mt. Olivet UMC in Robbinsdale.

Eventually, Kurt divorced and began working as a Loan Specialist for Wells Fargo. He met Julie Welter and enjoyed their relationship and becoming part of her family. Kurt and Julie had many memorable times together over the years. He delighted in being a Grandpa. Kurt had a good sense of humor and positive outlook in spite of having to navigate many challenging life issues.

Forever loved and missed by daughters, Sarah (Tom) Borger, Emily (Alex) Krasny, Laura (Mikel) Teich; grandson, Xander Krasny; girlfriend, Julie Welter; siblings, Carol (Doug) Snell, Judy (Vern) Pauly, Joyce Kasper, Shirley (Paul) Halvorson, Jan (Brian) Pals, Katie (Kent) Lawrence; other relatives and friends.

Greeting Kurt home in Heaven are his parents, Roy and Marlys; brothers, Dave (Mary), Keith, and brother-in-law, Gary “Goose” Kasper.

Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation proud serves the Teich family.

Kurt will be missed by many… myself included. I’ll always remember his laugh and sense of humor the most; however, as stated in the memorial, he was most certainly creative. This has been many years ago, but his work on the “Rocking Chair” put a smile on my face but also made me sad since I didn’t win it. The good thing about memories is that you don’t have buy them or win… they’ll always be there when you need them the most. My thoughts and prayers are with you Kurt, as well as your family. God bless you and yours.

I am so sad to hear this news. Kurt contributed his wonderful music talent a number of times at St John’s in Shakopee. His wit and laughter were part of him as much as the music. I know he’ll be playing music up in heaven.

Kurt Teich was my best friend in high school. As adults, he became a close friend to both myself and my wife, Bev. Kurt and I had always talked about doing creative projects together and we eventually created several video productions with Kurt providing the music. Both of us ended-up facing life challenges that took us in different directions. My wife showed me Kurt’s obituary this morning in the paper. I hadn’t been in contact with Kurt for a long time, but I had followed his work as a musician over the years. I am glad that so many people speak of his creativity, because he always felt called to share it with the world.

I’m so sorry to hear of Kurt’s passing. He and I were room mates for a year at Concordia. We used to play guitar together, and I was so amazed by his songwriting skill. It was truly a gift.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
