Kelly’s life story

Kelly Marie Hyatt

On Monday, January 28, 1985 in Shakopee, MN, Kelly Marie was born. The youngest of three children, she grew up in Shakopee with her two older brothers, Anthony and Matthew. As a young girl, Kelly loved visiting and playing at her grandparent’s farm. She especially relished her grandma’s special mash potato birthday cakes.

At the age of five, Kelly started swim lessons. At the age of eight, she started competitive swim with the Barracuda Swim Club. Unbeknown to Kelly, swimming would become the biggest passion in her life. She tried basketball, softball and golf, but swimming was her favorite. A talented swimmer already in the eighth grader, Kelly lettered as a varsity team member. A state champion in the 100 free style, she also took second place in the 50 free style. Kelly still holds three Shakopee High School records.

A graduate of the Class of 2003 from the Shakopee Senior High, Kelly went on earning a degree in Mass Communication at UIC (University of Illinois of Chicago), in 2007. While attending college, she continued breaking swim records. After college, Kelly held various jobs. She jump out of planes for Red Bull promotions and modeled for several agencies. In 2008, Kelly began a career in Yoga, mainly due to a way to relieve her back pain. Traveling to India and Thailand, for training, she later became a respected instructor. Kelly also was a nanny for the owner of the yoga business.

Living out a childhood dream, Kelly moved to Eureka, California with her boyfriend, Jason Benfield. Together, they continued her passions of traveling, photography and yoga. Over time, she saw the beautiful sights of Europe, Thailand, India, and Amsterdam, just to name a few. Through her travels, Kelly made countless lifelong friends. One of her large groups of friends was formed when she bought a moped in Chicago. Joining the ‘Moped Club, Kelly was able to travel throughout the United States.

Living life to the fullest; Kelly will be truly missed for her resonating smile. This dazzling smile would light up any room and could even get her out of trouble. A vibrant and outgoing tomboy by heart, Kelly grew up to be a beautiful and fearless young woman.

The evening hours of Sunday, October 28, 2012, Kelly breathed her last breath, after a major brain aneurysm, at the young age of 27. She gave the ultimate gift by donating her organs and now lives on through numerous recipients.

Deeply missed, Kelly will always be loved by her mother, Maureen Hyatt of Shakopee; father, David (Dinah) Hyatt of Shakopee; brothers, Anthony (Tammy) Hyatt of Shakopee, Army SFC Matthew (Jamie) Hyatt of Lumberton, NC; nieces and nephew, Kendra Hyatt (godchild), Victoria and Oaklee Hyatt; boyfriend, Jason Benfield of Eureka, CA; many uncles, aunts and cousins, along with countless friends.
