Kathleen Shankey, 85, of Prior Lake, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held for her family. Father Tom Walker will preside, and Kathleen’s granddaughter will act as urn bearer. Kathleen will be laid to rest at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Prior Lake.
On January 25th, 1936, Kathleen Margaret Shankey was born to James and Marie Madden at the family home in Credit River. She was the eighth of nine children. Kathleen went to and graduated from Prior Lake High School.
Kathleen married the love of her life, Francis Shankey, on April 23, 1955 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Prior Lake. The pair was blessed with two children, Michael and Bruce.
Kathleen was a stay at home mom for many years and then worked primarily as a Housekeeper. She first worked for individuals around the Prior Lake area and then worked for various hotel chains. Her meticulous attention to detail served her well in her line of work. After her retirement, Kathleen just couldn’t sit still and found herself working at Walgreens in the card section.
While Kathleen was often busy with her family or her work, she also found time to enjoy some of her hobbies. These included tending to her garden, playing cards and taking early morning walks with her friends. She also had a great skill in embroidery, or as she called it “Needle Point.”
Dedicated, loving and hard-working; Kathleen will be missed by her son, Bruce (Laurie) Shankey; grandchildren, Garrett, Griffin and Sophie Shankey; and sister, Delores (Clarence) Schesso.
Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband, Francis Shankey; parents, James and Marie Madden; son, Michael Shankey; siblings, Hazel Reed, James Madden, Ethel Deusterman, Dorothy Radanke, Norman Madden, Lucille Schommer, Frieda Busch, and Leo Madden.

To the family of Kathleen,
I am so sorry for your loss, I haven’t seen her for many years but she came to my sister Judy Peterson’s wake In 2016 who was Judy Deustermann and I was very appreciative of her thoughtfulness. I am sorry she wanted to keep this private but I will say prayers for her and the family.

Loved her spunky-ness.

My sympathy and prayers to your family. I had the honor to bring Eucharist to Kathleen at Fountain’s . It was truly a blessing and I enjoyed our visits. She has a love for St Micheal church.
