Kathleen Marie Ditlevson

At the age of 62 and a resident of Prior Lake, MN, Kathleen Marie, entered eternal peace the early afternoon of Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Lodge on Summit in Burnsville, MN. Family will greet guests on Friday, January 3, from 4-6 pm, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake and one hour prior to the Mass at church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 4, at 11 am, at the Church of St. Michael 16311 Duluth Avenue SE, Prior Lake. Father Tom Sieg will preside. Kathy will be laid to rest at Blooming Prairie Cemetery in Blooming Prairie, MN, on Saturday, January 4 at 3:30 pm.

On October 2, 1951, in Hancock, County, Iowa, Kathy was proudly born to parents Gerald and Marjorie (Arndorfer) Oxley. The older of two girls, she grew up on the family farm in Corwith, Iowa. Kathy spent her days helping dad with tending to the chickens and working in the fields. Her mother taught Kathy the skills of cooking and caring for the flowers in the garden.

A love for music, Kathy sang in the school chorus, played the clarinet in the school band and was also involved in the dance program. She graduated in 1969 from Corwith High School. Kathy attended nurses training in Hinsdale, Ill and graduated from Grand Valley State University. For 24 years, she was a dedicated and hard working employee for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, as a Senior Medical Underwriter.

On the front steps of St. Columbanus Catholic Church, Kathy was introduced to Daniel Ditlevson, by her father. Their love grew for each other and during the Halloween Storm of 1991, Kathy and Dan exchanged wedding vows on Saturday, November 2, 1991, at St. Columbanus Church in Blooming Prairie, MN. As a couple, they traveled the world, with precious memories to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and many cruises. Kathy and Dan enjoyed trying different foods at area restaurants and the company of their dinner group.

Nature was a passion of Kathy’s. She enjoyed watching the birds and the deer in her back yard. Kathy loved riding her bike and taking walks through the neighborhood. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she was an excellent cook and loved to talk about different recipes. An avid reader, Kathy also loved to get together with family and friends. She treasured taking her parents down town Minneapolis each Christmas, enjoying the sights and sounds of the season.

Keeping a meticulous home, Kathy found great comfort in her home. Always thinking and watching out for others, she will be missed for her generosity, kind and compassionate personality. Deeply missed and remembered always by those who loved Kathy, husband, Dan; parents, Gerald and Marjorie Oxley of Blooming Prairie; nephew, Joshua Skalisky; brother-in-law, Jim Schunke of Rochester; Godmother, Arlene Rice; Godchildren, Joshua Skalisky, Brian Gramza, Brady Ditlevson and Heather Pirkl; other loving relatives and devoted friends.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her sister, Rebecca Ann Schunke in February 2002 and Niki, her Welch Terrier of 11 ½ years.

Urn bearer for Kathy will be her husband, Dan and honorary pall bearers will be Sharon Pirkl, Jayne Travis, Patricia Johnson, Judy Felice, Tori Bronk, Margo Sandeen and Debbie Williamson.
