Condolence from Sue Fflesch on December 27th, 2019 9:44 am

The world – certainly mine – will never be the same without Kathy in it. She was an amazing friend to me, through good times and challenging, for many years. Still trying to wrap my head around the thought I’ll no longer be able to just pick up the phone to chat with her, or meet for one of our notorious hours long breakfasts or lunches where we’d solve all the worlds problems (and sometimes even one or two of our own!).
I know my heart isn’t the only one breaking. Kathy meant so much to so many – no matter what she herself may have been going through, she always had the time and energy for a smile, hug or a word of encouragement to brighten someone else’s day.
Family was EVERYTHING to Kathy. She talked of and loved you all dearly. I believe she’s not truly gone, but merely on the other side of the thin veil separating heaven and earth and still very much connected to all of you. Most importantly, she”s now at peace and free from all her earthly pain.
My deepest condolences to all that loved and cherished Kathy. May she rest in peace.

Condolence from Gail Flickinger on December 27th, 2019 11:44 am

My heart goes out to you all on the passing of Kathy. She was a joy to be around at the NMDP, and I delighted in getting to know her at memorable lunches full of laughter and great happy hours with friends. Her smile, her caring for others, her sense of humor and witty comments…I will remember her always. She was a spark of joy in every life she touched and I know you will miss her so much.

Condolence from Tanya Wright on December 27th, 2019 8:26 pm

Kathy was a kind and joyful soul. The world is a little darker without her for sure.

Condolence from Kathy Gallo on December 27th, 2019 11:56 am

Kathy will be missed by many, many people. I remember stopping by her desk to say hello, or ask a donor suitability or eligibility question and she was more than happy to spend time with me. She always had a bowl of candy on her desk, free for the taking when you needed a little something sweet. Invariably, however, she would pull out the secret stash saying “Here, take this. It’s fresher!”
She had a kind and generous spirit. I’m glad our paths crossed.
Rest In Peace, sweet lady.

Condolence from Maria MacWilliams on December 27th, 2019 12:32 pm

I cannot believe yet what has happened. We lost such an amazing friend and colleage , she hired me first to start working in the Call back unit when it was still a pilot project. She was always kind with all of us, made us feel welcome and loved. She loved to talk about mom and dad, Kris and the girls, she loved you all so much.
She made the NMDP and her teams a wonderful place to collaborate together and give the best of ourselves. She encourage growth .
As a friend she always had a positive and loving attitude, it was so much fun to be with her, so many laughters and wonderful times, over lunches or dinners , and with some other nmdpers.
She always felt the love and support of her great network of friends and family.

I will miss her so much, her advice and sense of humor, but as Sue says she is just on the other side of the veil, when we will meet again one day.
Rest in peace dear friend and colleage, you have made a difference in my life with your friendship and love.
Maru Macwilliams

Condolence from Greg Gibeau on December 28th, 2019 10:19 pm

Kathy was such a wonderful soul. I treasure all the memories I have of her sharing stories about her family, her nieces, but especially her Mom and Dad. She loved them all dearly. We chatted often about family and life over cups of our favorite coffees almost everyday for over 10 years. Many a holiday and birthday was shared in Medical Services over the years. Good friends gathered together to share great food and happy moments. I brought my kids to visit her department several times over the years I worked at NMDP and Kathy was always so happy to share time with them as well as candy. I will miss you dear friend. May God welcome you into His mansion where he has prepared a room for you.

Condolence from Bette Braem on December 29th, 2019 7:27 pm

My heartfelt sympathy to all family and friends that cherished Kathy. Kathy radiated joy and unconditional support to me and all her surrounding colleagues (as well as thousands of marrow donors, patients, and their support teams). It was nearly impossible to feel down or dejected in Kathy’s presence. What a gift of hope and encouragement she freely gave to us! Rest in peace, Kathy; you nurtured a legacy of goodness.

Condolence from Sherry Rue on December 30th, 2019 6:20 am

I am sending prayers of strength and healing to Kathy’s family and all those of us who loved her so dearly. Kathy’s heart was filled to the brim with love like no one else I know. Her kindness was always deeply felt by those she came in contact with!! I believe we (Kathy) love others in a way that reflects our relationship with God – and with that said, I think Kathy had one of the closest relationships with her Creator to be able to love the way she did!

She showed us the best in humanity on a daily basis, and was full of unconditional love and generously for all!! She had an uncanny ability to see the positive side of any situation. We all struggle in life some. We all have weaknesses. We all want acceptance.
I will truly miss your love and friendship Kathy!! I’m sorry we didn’t get to play that last Scrabble game. I’m sorry I didn’t stop in more often to catch up, or help out. I’m sorry I didn’t get to give you a hug good-bye before going to meet Jesus…..

Rest is peace and shine your brightness on all of us left with a void in our hearts!! You are missed ❤️❤️

To Kathy’s family- I am deeply saddened for the loss of Kathy. I cannot imagine what you are going through. She was an amazing colleague. I always looked forward to chatting with her. Condolence from Susie Sturbaum on December 30th, 2019 9:39 am

My deepest sympathies to her family and to those friends that loved her so much.. The world has lost such a sweet and caring soul. I so vividly remember when I first met Kathy and how welcoming and warm she was. So kind and thoughtful, generous beyond words. Our friendship remained strong for the past 25 years and while we were work colleagues, we were also close friends, though many miles separated us. I will always remember Kathy’s wonderful sense of humor, It warms my heart to remember that giggly laugh when she would be amused at something.
Oh Kathy…you have left a void in our lives with the absence of your presence, rest well sweet girl, peace be with you and those who loved you…until we meet again.

I was so saddened to hear of Kathy’s passing. Although we didn’t work closely together at NMDP, when we discovered we both were students at Gustavus, that was reason enough to chat often. Kathy was always positive. She shared her time, an encouraging word, and even a smile to greet anyone who passed her desk. Kathy made a difference in this world, one contact at a time. She is missed.

Condolence from Jan Clark-Bjore on December 31st, 2019 2:49 pm

40 years ago I first met Kathy. We were both Freshman Nursing students. Last year we sat together at the wedding of a son of a fellow Nurse that graduated with us. Although the years had passed , she had not changed a bit! We had a great time catching up! I’m saddened that I won’t be able to have that future ‘catch up’ session here in our earthly home. I do have the hope of being able to ‘catch up’ with her later…. in our heavenly home.
Kathy is now at peace. Soon let there be peace with her family & friends left here on earth .
