WEB Josh

Joshua Joe Hansen, of Prior Lake, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the age of 41. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 5:00 PM with visitation two hours prior at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church in Prior Lake. Rev. Diana Hunstad will preside.

On April 11, 1974 Mark and Nancy celebrated the birth of their beautiful baby boy, Joshua Joe. Shortly after Josh was born, his family moved to Rosholt, SD. Josh loved growing up on the family’s grain farm. When he and his siblings weren’t helping out with chores, they were enjoying the outdoors. They loved to hunt, fish, snowmobile and ride 4 wheelers together.

During high school Josh was active in athletics. He played football and basketball and developed a life-long passion for sports. Josh graduated from Rosholt High School in 1992. After high school, Josh attended North Dakota State Science College to study graphic design and earned his Associates Degree. He then moved to Minnesota to pursue a career in his profession.

Josh was a hard worker and very skilled in his trade. He worked as the Pre-Press Division Manager for RR Donnelley for 17 years. He then moved to IWCO in Chanhassen where he had an opportunity to manage a number of different divisions, including Pre-Printing, Creative Utility and Planning. Josh was very driven and was on his way to taking on even more responsibilities in the years to come.

When Josh was 25 years old he was blessed with a son. Nate was truly the light of Josh’s life. Josh loved being a dad, and he was great at it. Josh passed on his creative spirit and talents to Nate. A little later in life, Josh was lucky enough to become a dad to Mallory and Luke as well. Josh loved his kids more than anything and would do anything for them.

About four years ago, it was suggested that Josh get to know a woman named Eryn Bartels. Josh and Eryn corresponded for a few weeks before finally going on date. Even before meeting her in person, Josh knew that he loved Eryn. It wasn’t long before Eryn felt the same way. Their love continued to grow, and after a year of dating they got engaged and made a commitment to spend their lives together.

Eryn and Josh loved spending time together with their family. They were always running the kids to all of their different activities. Josh loved to coach the kids’ sports teams, and Eryn would be on the sidelines cheering the team on to a victory. Josh and Eryn had a shared love for all things sports, and they loved cheering on the Vikings together. They spent every Sunday at home together as a family watching the games. Josh was truly a family man, and he cherished every moment spent with the ones he loved the most.

One of Josh’s passions in life was the outdoors. He loved being at the family cabin in Nisswa or just sitting around the bon fire at home with a Coors Light in his hand. Josh also took an annual ice fishing trip with his brothers, and they always had a great time.

During the early morning hours of July 15, 2015, Josh passed away suddenly in his home. Josh’s life ended much too soon, but he was able to help many people through his final act of generosity as an organ donor. Josh will be remembered for quick wit and life-of-the-party personality. He was caring, loyal, smart and generous. Josh was truly an all-around great guy.

Josh will be deeply missed and remembered always by his loving fiancé, Eryn Bartels; children, Nathan, Mallory and Luke; mother, Nancy (Myles) Peterson; siblings, Matt (Amber) Hansen, Jayson (Jennifer) Hansen, Carly (Eric Geffre) Peterson, Dean (Danielle Knowdel) Peterson; many nieces and nephews; special four-legged friends, Otis and Marvin; other loving relatives and many dear friends. Josh will be greeted in Heaven by his father, Mark Hansen; grandparents; uncle, Bob Lillehaug; aunt, Carla Hansen; cousins, Danny Lillehaug and Shelley Stark.

The Hansen family is served with honor, care and compassion by Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation.

Condolence from Andrew Marinello on July 16th, 2015 4:03 pm

Josh is more of a mentor to me than anything. Anyone that knows him would consider him a family member as he is one of the most caring, considerate and compassionate people I have come to know.

He hired me 12 years ago at Banta(RR Donnelley) to kickstart my career in the printing industry, directly out of college. If you worked with him, chances are he gave you a nickname whether you wanted it or not and it always stuck. He always made a terrible day at the office seem great with his humor and contagious laugh. I cannot begin to express how saddened I am by his passing.

My sincere condolences to all his family.

A sad day for all but let’s celebrate the wonderful life he lived. Cheers, good friend!

That was only an example of his creative wit! I always told him he should have been a comedian! He did give the greatest hugs!! I know he is wondering when the tears will end and the party will begin! Celebrate his life! That’s what he would want us to do!!

I worked remotely with Josh for a few of the Banta/RRD years. There was never a phone call that didn’t include some amount of laughter. But even with his layed back approach he was a very good, very professional manager that I was proud to work with and work for.

My thoughts and prayers to Josh’s family, friends, and coworkers, which so often were one and the same. Thanks Josh for taking a chance on the guy from the Prairie and getting me back to the cities. I appreciated your humor and easy smile and respected your intelligence and family devotion. So many memories, and they all make me smile.

I believe that everyone who knew Josh would agree that he had an infectious personality and sharp wit. He has always shown an absolute devotion to family and friends. As I come to terms with his departure, I want to express my deepest condolences to his entire family. I will always have many memories of hours of conversation and laughing until it hurt with him. Those will not be forgotten. I know that he will be missed by everyone who has had the fortune to have known him.

My family and I send our deepest sympathies to Nate, Nancy, and the rest of Josh’s family. We’re lifting you up in prayer and know that God will wrap his loving arms around you. Nancy, you raised an amazing son who touched so many. It was a huge blessing to have him walk into my life many years ago. He has left a lasting, loving impression on my heart.

Everyone who knew Josh loved him. With his irresistible charm, wit, sense of humor, and his heart of gold how could you not? Behind his laughter was such a gentle soul. He had such a deep love for those he held closest to his heart. He was so much more than a coworker, mentor, and friend to those he worked with. He was family. His infectious laugh and spirit were embraced by all who were blessed enough to have known him. There wasn’t a day that went by in over 15 years that he didn’t put a smile on my face. He had such a special gift of helping put people at ease no matter the situation at hand. He gave some of the best hugs and always provided comfort and encouragement. Josh, you were one of my best friends. I can’t believe you’re gone, but you will live on forever in my heart. Sooooo many fond memories flood my mind. I will keep them with me and remember to smile as they warm my heart. This isn’t goodbye, Joshy… this is until we meet again. <3 and hugs

I worked with Josh for many years at Banta. It is impossible to think of those years and not think of him.

Ironic the day we heard of Josh passing, we were having a department potluck. (We went on with the potluck on that sad day, in a way trying to celebrate knowing him). Josh was an awesome supervisor and always had a joke or smile for his employees. Josh came up with some darn good Trivia questions and enjoyed when he stumped us and then cheerfully gave us the answers. He will be greatly missed here at IWCO Direct.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Josh. I only worked for Josh for a short period of time, but in that time he proved to be compassionate, friendly, wise and fun. I remember him best for his distaste for oatmeal raisin cookies. He would make the funniest face if you even mentioned them. May you brighten up the heavens Josh.

Condolence from Adam Van Sickle on July 21st, 2015 5:16 pm

Completely shocked and saddened to hear the news of Josh’s passing. I worked with Josh for just a short time at Banta (before it became RRD). I couldn’t have asked for a better professional to look up to during my first internship out of college. I can still remember playing softball with Josh and the guys, fantasy football drafts and other outings. No matter what we were doing, he brought a strong sense of camaraderie to the group. He made you feel welcomed, included and important. No matter what the situation was. He was such a great guy. I will never forget him. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family…

I had the good fortune of meeting Josh several times. Each time I was impressed by Josh’s “centeredness” (is that a word?) When chatting with him it was easy to see that you were chatting with a real person; someone who possessed both depth and humor. That a special, rare, combination. My prayers and sympathy extend to the entire family – and especially to his son, Nate. In future your remembrances will always sustain his memory and enrich your lives.

Condolence from Nancy Peterson on December 12th, 2015 9:05 am

It has been almost 5 months since Josh passed away. It hasn’t gotten easier. One thing that helps is all the nice things that has been said and written about my Josh. I did not want to stand in the line at his funeral and greet people but I did it for Josh and Nate. I’m so glad I did. I met some of Josh’s co-workers and hearing all the wonderful things they told me about Josh. Some didn’t say much but I could see in their face that they were going to miss him. All of you are life family and I had the honor to join that family. You don’t know how many times Josh spoke of you. I know some of you did not get thank you notes but I thank you for the cards or even thinking of us that day. Josh loved you all. Again, thank you so much. Nate, Nancy, Myles, Matt, Amber, Olivia, Zach, Jayson, Jennie, Sami, Connor, Carly, Eric, Dean and Danielle. We will always keep you all in our prayers.
