Janet S. Remmel

On Saturday, January 21, 1939 in Glendale, Indiana, Janet Sue was born to parents Ellis and Maude Dyer.
Growing up in Glendale, she attended a one room school house, of a class of two students. Janet spent countless hours assisting her parents at the country store they owned. She recalls the many trips in the Huckster Wagon delivering goods to customer’s homes. As a teenager, she also worked at the local drive in restaurant.

For 18 years, Janet was married to Bill Remmel. They were blessed with six children, Diana, Carla, Mike, Billy, Charles and David. Moving around the country, due to Bill’s jobs, they finally settled down in Prior Lake, MN in 1972. Unfortunately, Janet and Bill parted ways. In the mid 1970’s, Janet met a loyal companion for life, while hanging out at the Prior Lake V.F.W. His name was Ronnie Tessmer. She then expanded her family to include, Herb, Marge, Chuck, Laurie and Ron. As a couple, they enjoyed having refreshing cocktails, taking their chance at a game of pull tabs and enjoying each other’s company.

Most of Janet’s time was spent raising her children through the years. In the late 70’s to early 80’s, she worked for the Milk Store in downtown Prior Lake. Janet was known as the milk store lady. For the most part, life was simple for Janet. She enjoyed staying home playing board and card games. An avid mystery reader, Janet too liked to play dominos, cook and put puzzles together.

A friendly, outgoing and very social individual, Janet loved talking with all types of people. She was a woman with a funny sense of humor, an independent spirit and had a deep love for cats. On Sunday, November 18, 2012, Janet passed away at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, at the age of 71.

Janet leaves behind her loyal companion, Ronnie Tessmer of Prior Lake; children Diana Norman of Hopkins, Carla Remmel of Arizona, Mike Remmel of Wisconsin, Billy (Christine) Remmel of Coon Rapids, Charles Remmel of Arizona, David Remmel of Arizona; granddaughter, McKenzie Remmel; extended family of children Herb (Julie) Tessmer of Prior Lake, Marge Holtan of Bloomington, Chuck (Sue) Tessmer of New Prague, Laurie Jackson of Lakeville and Ron Tessmer of Prior Lake; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, November 24 at 11 am, with visitation starting at 9:30 am, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation Services 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN. Janet will be laid to rest at Spring Lake Cemetery in Prior Lake, MN.
