Janet Marie Poehler, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Fairview Ridges Hospital. She was a resident of Lakeville, MN and formerly of Shakopee, MN.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 3:00 PM with a time of gathering from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (833 S. Marschall Road) in Shakopee. Chaplain Mari Strong presided, and Janet’s grandchildren acted as pall bearers. A private family interment will take place this fall at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Memorials are preferred and will be distributed in Janet’s memory, by her family.

On March 9, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN, Janet was born to parents Hugh Wallace and Dorothy Evelyn (Herbst) Brumbaugh. She graduated from West High School in Minneapolis. Janet furthered her education at St Mary’s School of Nursing, Rochester, MN, where she attained a degree as a Registered Nurse. Janet loved being a nurse and helping her patients and their families. For over 30 years, Janet worked as a nurse in Shakopee, at St Francis Hospital’s Emergency Room and at Sundance Medical Clinic. She also started the hospice program for the hospital. In later years, Janet also worked as a hospice nurse providing home care for patients in the Hackensack, MN area.

Janet’s passion in life was being a wife, mother and grandma. She married William Chalmers in October of 1960. They were blessed with four children, Julie, Jeff, David and Dawnelle. Unfortunately, they parted ways. Janet’s life was once again enriched in love. She married Francis Daniel Poehler on February 18, 1984 and welcomed his son, Brian into her life. Together, they enjoyed time spent at Lazy Lane Lodge, on Webb Lake in Hackensack, MN. Here, Janet and Fran owned and operated the resort originally owned by his parents. She enjoyed her wild flower gardens and creating precious memories with the grandchildren, especially with parades on Fourth of July. For several years, Janet and Fran lived in Arizona, where she enjoyed socializing and participating in activities with friends.

An amazing and compassionate caregiver, Janet relished assuring her family, friends and patients that their needs would always be met. She had such a warm and welcoming personality. Janet will forever remain in the hearts of her husband, Fran; children, Julie (Larry) Larson, Jeff (Julie Martin) Chalmers, David (Kim) Chalmers, Dawnelle (Rick) D’Aoust, Brian (Andrea) Poehler; grandchildren, Kirsa (fiancé Niels Haenebalcke) Larson, Kevin (Zoe) Larson, Shelby Chalmers, Lucas Martin, Luana Martin, Mariana Martin, Jacob Chalmers, Laura Chalmers, James D’Aoust, Marina D’Aoust, Alyssa Poehler, Micaella Poehler, Ryan Poehler, Alexandra Poehler; sister, JoAnn (Robert) Hilton; other relatives and friends.

Greeting Janet home in Heaven are her parents, Hugh & Dorothy; and sister, Joyce (Harlan) Hauskins.

Your mom was such a caring and loving person. I worked with Jan for many years at St. Francis ER and saw first hand her dedicated nursing . We were a closely knit group then and shared all our families lives. Jan was fun loving and all shared humor and laughter with her, the world will miss her.
My deepest sympathy
Pat
