Janet’s life story

Janet Ruth Livingston

Earl Harlan and Anna Mary (Grimm) Rose proudly announced the birth of their daughter Janet Ruth on March 15, 1935 in Spencer, Iowa. The oldest of three children, Janet’s childhood years were spent growing up in Spencer. She attended school in Spencer and in her free time loved to spend countless hours at the amusement park at Okoboji. Janet’s favorite activity at the park was roller-skating.

It was at the amusement park, Janet meet a young man named, Kenneth C. Livingston. On September 9 in Spencer, Iowa they exchanged wedding vows and were blessed with four children, Michael, Steve, Randy and Lori. Ken’s job took them around the states for many years, with additional homes in Dickens, Iowa, Pine Island and finally settling down in New Prague, MN in 1967. In later years, Janet lived in Savage, with the last four years in Shakopee.

With a love for the outdoors, Janet tended to her flower and vegetable garden, and canned the fruits of her labor. She loved to entertain whoever knocked at her door. Always cooking, Janet loved to serve them and especially enjoyed the conversations. She was the gathering spot for the Chadwick ladies. Janet loved to play games, like Uno and Black Jack.

Janet loved to travel, with special memories to Branson, Missouri to see the shows and visits to the gulf in Mississippi. A talented artist, she taught ceramic classes out of her home for years. An avid Elvis fan, Janet loved anything Elvis; pictures, statues, beanie babies and even a life size cut out.

The late morning of Monday, April 8, 2013, Janet was 78 years old when she passed peacefully surrounded by her family, at St. Gertrude’s Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee, MN.
