WEB Ione Hasselton

Ione Hasselton, of Prior Lake, MN (formerly of Des Moines, IA & Fargo, ND) passed away on March 17, 2021 at the age of 87.

A Christian Funeral was held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 11:00 AM with visitation one-hour prior at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (4565 Pleasant Street SE) in Prior Lake. Pastor Chad Gilbertson led the service. A recording is available at the following link: Ione Hasselton Funeral Service.

Ione’s nieces, nephew, grand nieces and grand nephews will act as urn bearers, and Ione will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery in Roseville, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Trinity UMC.

Ione was born to Werner & Elizabeth Hasselton on January 25, 1934 and was a descendent of the White Earth Reservation. She grew up on the family farm in Fosston, MN. Ione graduated from Fosston High School in 1952 and attended a business school in Fargo, ND. After completing her school, Ione began working as an insurance clerk. She worked for the same company her entire career. She started with them in Fargo and later moved to Des Moines, IA when the company relocated. Ione was a hard worker and made many wonderful friends at work.

Ione was always very active in her local church. She had many dear friends from church. Ione helped make the church bulletins and was involved in the Women’s Organization.

In retirement, Ione was able to pursue her love of traveling. Over the years she visited much of the United States with some of her favorite trips being to Maine, Florida and Hawaii. Ione especially enjoyed traveling to visit her sisters, Verna and Joan, when they were snow birds. Ione purchased a mobile home in Mesa, AZ. Verna & Jim were fortunate to share it with her for many years.

Ione spent much of her time living West Des Moines; however, in recent years, she moved to Prior Lake to be closer to her sisters and extended family. Faith and family were always the most important things in Ione’s life. She loved spending time with her nieces & nephews and their children. Ione was always a very generous and caring person. She always remembered her nieces and nephew on their birthdays and Christmas.

Ione will be remembered always by her loving family. She is survived by her sisters, Verna (Jim) Erickson and Joan Nelson; nieces & nephew, Doug Erickson, Julie Erickson & Karen Mack; “grand-nieces & nephews”, Brady Erickson, Spencer Busch, Kaitlyn Busch, Kendra Busch, Cole Erickson, Emma Erickson and Brian Mack; other loving relatives and friends. Ione was greeted in Heaven by her parents, Werner & Elizabeth Hassleton; brother-in-law, Ev Nelson.

Ione will certainly be missed. She was a dedicated volunteer and follower of Christ while I worked at the West Des Moines United Methodist Church. She loved to talk about her sisters, nieces, and nephews. My condolences to the family.

Ione was a great friend through WDM UMChurch. We hold fond memories of mission trips, church meals, Bible studies & Sunday School classes with Ione. What a dear, sweet woman. We were blessed to have known her. Cindy & Mark Willson

Condolence from Ginny Frazee on March 19th, 2021 2:00 pm

We are so sorry for the loss of this grand lady. She was a friend of ours at West Des Moines United Methodist Church and we have been praying for her daily for many years – way before she moved to Prior Lake. Her family was so very important to her and we were happy for her when she was able to move closer to her sisters. We pray God will grant you all His peace and comfort as you remember many happy times with her. We are remembering her as well.

Condolence from Paul Gesell on March 19th, 2021 3:06 pm

I was saddened to hear of Ione’s passing.

Her entire family is in my thoughts and prayers. May the Lord offer you His comfort in your time of need.

Ione was indeed a faithful and loving servant of the Lord. She was always on the move doing something to help others! She was a friend to everyone she met.

I first met Ione shortly after I joined West Des Moines United Church more than 26 years ago.

I enjoyed serving along side Ione on our church’s Missions Committee for several years. I participated with Ione on many church mission trips both near and far. She was also a fixture each year at the annual spring clean up days at nearby UM Camp Wesley Woods, which she dearly loved. At such events, she was always a ‘rock’ to some of us “younger” folks, in spite of her advancing years.

Ione will be sadly be missed by many.

With deepest sympathy,

Paul Gesell
