Harriet was born on July 10, 1935, in Montgomery, MN, the youngest of fifteen children, to Frank and Anna (Flicek) Turek. She attended Catholic school through the eighth grade. While in high school she took a strong interest in music, competing in state vocal contests. She was a Montgomery Carnival Queen, and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1953.

While still in school, Harriet met her husbandtobe of 66 years, Allen Edward Bartyzal. They were married August 7, 1954, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Soon after, Allen was drafted into the United States Army and served two years in Japan. Upon his return, Harriet, Allen, and their daughter Patricia settled in Shakopee. Over the years, the growing family welcomed the arrival of Barbara, David, Douglas, and Mary.

Harriet, Allen and their family took to camping in order to explore state parks, and they traveled extensively throughout the United States. Through the years, Harriet and Allen traveled in Europe, Asia, Alaska, Canada and Hawaii, sailed on many cruises, and attended Elderhostels throughout the United States. Family vacations have continued and, most recently, have included their adult children and extended family.

As Harriet and Allen became grandparents, they enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s school and college activities, sporting events and graduations. For the past 15 years, they hosted weekly family luncheons for their adult children where the family enjoyed Harriet’s home cooking and lively family discussion. When COVID hit, the gatherings turned to daily video chats.

Harriet was a talented seamstress and quilter, welcoming each new grandbaby and great-grandbaby with a handmade quilt. She loved performing and listening to music, and encouraged this love in her children and grandchildren. For over 50 years, Harriet was a member of the Church of St. Mary Sunday morning choir. She loved socializing with her friends and neighbors. Harriet sent cards and personal messages to her loved ones on their special occasions, and for decades, she was the family historian, daily journaling the family’s activities.

Harriet had a big heart and a deep faith in the Lord. She is survived by her husband, Allen; children, Patricia (Robert) Suel, Barbara (John) Tieben, David Bartyzal, Douglas (Susan) Bartyzal, Mary (Doug) Hanek; grandchildren, Michael Suel (Katy Vannet), Jean (Dean) Braatz, John (Danielle) Tieben, Katherine Tieben (David Wrzos), Daniel (Amber) Bartyzal, Donna (Nate) Miller, Tony (Ellen) Bartyzal, Nick (Rita) Bartyzal, Chris (Katelyn) Hanek, Sarah Hanek (Joe Williams), Matthew Hanek; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Eva (Harmon) Tracy; sisters-in-law, Carrol Turek and Bonnie Turek.
