WEB Gerald Hoy

At the age of 78, Jerry Hoy passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, December 28, 2016, at the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home. He was a resident of the Jordan community.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, from 4-7 pm at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation 104 West First Street, Jordan and one hour prior to the Mass at church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 7 at 11 am, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church 210 North Broadway, Jordan, led by Father Timothy Yanta. Pall bearers will be his grandchildren. Jerry will be laid to rest with full military honors provided by the Jordan Vets Honor Guard, at St. John’s Calvary Cemetery, Jordan.

Gerald Wayne was born on July 30, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN, the 2nd of three children to parents Clifford and Mabel (Olson) Hoy. Growing up in Minneapolis, he attended the public school, graduating from West High School, in 1956. After high school Jerry proudly served in the United States Army for several years. After his discharge from active duty, Jerry started working at Honeywell and spent the next 39 ½ years there working. During this time he had the opportunity to attend a technical school to become a tool and die maker. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union #1147

Through mutual friends at a party in 1961, Jerry was introduced to Eileen Elizabeth Deusterman. On August 25, 1962, they joined their hands in Holy Matrimony at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Jordan, MN. Jerry and Eileen were blessed with four children, Jackie, Sandy, Julie and Dave. The family first lived around the Minneapolis area, before settling their roots in 1972 in Jordan.

As a family, they enjoyed camping and fishing. Later, Jerry and Eileen relished the 20 plus years traveling to Poskin Resort in Wisconsin. They were even fortunate to spend several winters in Arizona. Jerry served his community for a couple of years as a member of the Jordan Lions Club.

In 2011, Jerry fell on the ice and received a traumatic brain injury. He fought hard, persevered and had a full recovery from his injury. He was known to the doctors as the “Miracle Man.” Jerry’s approach in life was through humor. This sense of survivorship has been passed down to his children and grandchildren through the years.

Jerry’s great sense of humor and fun loving characteristic will continue to be lived through the ones he loved, wife, Eileen; daughters, Jackie (Mark) Wolf, Sandy (Brad) Quatmann, Julie Hoy; son, Dave (Michelle) Hoy; grandchildren, Matt (Shawn) Wolf, Megan Wolf, Jon Wolf, Christopher Quatmann, Abby Quatmann, Justin Hoy, Garrett Hoy; sister, Joann Ruddy; many relatives and friends.

There welcome Jerry home was his parents, Clifford and Mabel; sister, Donna (Jim) Carter and mother-in-law, Johanna Deusterman.

Condolence from Randy Deusterman on January 2nd, 2017 9:26 am

Eileen and family,
Myself and the Deusterman family are saddened by Jerry’s passing. Jerry will obviously be missed! As you know, we all have many fond memories of family gatherings and growing up together. Though our families are spread out over the country, now, we still hold that family bond and love that will forever stay in the minds and hearts of all of us…
Personally, you and Jerry have always been there as god-parents to me, so I have had an even more special bond with you two! I love you guys. As with the rest of the Deusterman’s, they send their condolences and love to you and to your family.

Condolence from Peter Stahler on January 9th, 2017 6:38 am

Dear Eileen,
Dear Jackie and Family,
Our paths haven’t crossed much since I moved to Germany 30 years ago, but on occaision they have, and I remember your husband/father as a wonderful man.
Albert Einstein is accredited with defining friendship: a friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the melody. [Ein Freund ist jemand, der die Melodie deines Herzens kennt und sie Dir vorspielt wenn Du sie vergessen hast.] I wish you all the strength you will need through the coming weeks and months without Jerry, and a lot of such friends to surround you throughout the coming year.
Peter Stahler
