A longtime resident of Brooklyn Park, MN and formerly of Shakopee, Francis “Fran” Rein was 79 years old, when he passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017.

Time of gathering of family and friends will be Monday, May 22, 2017 from 4-6 pm at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation in Shakopee.

Francis Joseph was born on February 21, 1938 in Shakopee, MN, to parents Christie and Bernice Rein. To most, he was known as Fran. Raised in Shakopee, he was the oldest of twelve children. Fran graduated from Shakopee High School in 1956 and proudly served in the Unites States Army. He also worked at Beren’s Supermarket for many years. In his free time, Fran enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing softball.

Left to honor Fran’s life and to carry on his legacy are children, Dianna (Ralph Reister) Lauzer, Laurie Rein, Paul Rein, Julie Rein; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Margaret Rein (and twin sister), Mary Rein, Tom (Marilyn) Rein, Anna (David) Otto, Nancy Parkos, Charlie (Pat) Rein, Steve Rein, Kathleen Rein, Patrick (Judy) Rein, Teresa (Mike) Bloom; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

There to welcome Fran home in heaven was his grandsons, Jeremy Steinmetz, Joshua Lauzer; parents, Christie and Bernice; brother, Paul Rein; brother-in-law, Bob Parkos and 40-year love, Ellyn Burkhart.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends. May you find some comfort in the promise found in Revelation 21: 3-4 and 1 Thessalonians 4:14. Knowing that there is an opportunity to be reunited with love ones lost in death.

I was really sorry to hear of friends death and apparently somewhat of a battle with cancer. Always remember Fran with a warm smile and I’m sorry I could not make it to his memorial ! I had planned to be there I’m very sorry I couldn’t make it! I love all the Rein family and wish you all the best – Wally Bungert
