Ethel Blumberg, age 94 of Prior Lake, entered eternal life on August 7, 2019. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 11AM with a visitation 1-hour prior at St. Michael Catholic Church, Prior Lake. She will be laid to rest at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.

Ethel Blumberg was born June 21, 1925 to Bernard and Clara (Hennes) Wolf on the family farm in Jordan, Minnesota. When Ethel started school she only spoke German and knew no English, but learned quickly. She also played the flute in her school band.

Ethel lived on the family farm until September 6, 1944 when she married Edward Blumberg at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marystown, MN. They moved to Prior Lake and resided in that area where they raised their family. They were blessed with 6 children.

Ethel was always hard working and family centered. She liked doing hair and over the years many friends and family came to her for their haircuts, etc. Ethel loved playing cards, especially Flume, and played every chance she got. She also loved the variety of activities provided at St. Gertrude’s.

The family enjoyed their many vacations up north, especially Lake George and Lake Hattie. Many fond memories were made on those trips, not to mention all the fish Ethel fried. Blumberg’s band, the Jolly Musicians, was a large part of Ethel & Eddie’s social life, attending many evenings of dancing and socializing with friends.

Ethel’s faith was very important to her. She was an active member of St. Michaels Catholic Church until she suffered a debilitating stroke. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Prior Lake VFW and put in many hours of volunteer work. Later spending her final years at St. Gertrude’s Care and Rehab Facility in Shakopee, MN, where she received wonderful care, and was a favorite of the staff.

Ethel will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her children, Jan Rahbain of Prior Lake, Glady (Ben) Pahl of Watertown, S.D., Tom (Cheryl) Blumberg of Waite Park, Ken (Karen) Blumberg of Eden Prairie, Carol Ferrier of Prior Lake, and Dan Blumberg of Prior Lake; along with her grandchildren, Darrin (Pam) Rahbain, Dawn Rahbain, Corey Rahbain, Lisa Meyer, Ben (Nicole) Pahl, Brenda (Mike) Pahl, Wendy (Matt) Giebler, Tami Schumacher, Tracy Blumberg, Tara Cardinal, Josh Ferrier, and Toby (Vanessa) Ferrier, 17 greatgrandchildren, and 12 great greatgrandchildren, siblings, Ken (Loretta) Wolf of Shakopee and Helen (Art) Buchtel of Shakopee, sister-in-law Myrtie Wolf of Jordan, brother-in-law, Ken Fischer of Shakopee, brother-in-law Gene (Joan) Blumberg, and sister-in-law Marilyn (Tom) Rein, and many nieces and nephews, and special family friend Don Pelletier.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Edward; siblings, Werner (Laura), Leonard, Cyril (Vangie), Dennis, and Mary Fischer, and son-in-law Don Rahbain.

Love and condolences to all of my family in Ethel’s passing. She was a great lady, always had a twinkle in her eyes, and always had time for me and my cousins Josh and Toby when we would ride our bikes and stop by the house. There, we’d always get offered popsicles or some sweet treat. It was one of our many stops as kids, and we often played in the woods behind their home. Rest in Peace Grand Auntie. A life well lived and loved by so many! I will unfortunately not be able to make the service, please know you are all on my mind, with love.

O Ethel you are someone I always admired.
I too received many hair cuts from you and I’m sure there were perms involved. I have many good memories of our family times together.
You were always so kind, hard working and just a lovely lady.
I aspire to keep going as long as you did.
You give me hope. Rest in peace sweet lady.
Love,
Your niece Nancy (Blumberg) McKinley

What a sweet lady!
My mom Ida would take us all to Ethel for our haircuts. She gave us all the same haircut. One time I told her I wanted my hair cut in a duck tail in the back, she nodded ok, and then gave me the pixie cut again! ❤️
It was fun seeing our classmate Tom while we were there!
