Doris Rushmeyer, of Shakopee (formerly of Jordan), entered eternal peace on August 25, 2018 at the age of 85. A visitation will be held on Wednesday., August 29, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (104 First St. W.) in Jordan. A Celebration of Life Service is Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM with visitation one-hour prior at Mount Olive Lutheran Church (12700 Marystown Road) in Shakopee. Doris will be laid to rest at Spirit Hill Cemetery in Jordan, and her grandchildren will act as pallbearers.

On February 11, 1933 Doris Jean Smith was born to parents, Robert & Wilma Smith. She was the sixth of seven children and grew up on the family farm between Jordan and Belle Plaine. It was a simple life and Doris enjoyed spending time outdoors.

Right out of high school, Doris married Willy Krohn. Their marriage was blessed with two wonderful sons, who were the light of her life. Doris worked hard to pass on her strong faith to her boys. They attended church as a family every week. Throughout her life, Doris had several different jobs, but the most important job she ever had was being a mom to her two boys. Eventually, Doris and Willy went their separate ways, but they always remained dedicated parents to Bruce and Doug.

One night when Doris was out socializing, she met a man named Lowell Rushmeyer. Doris and Lowell hit it off immediately, and they quickly realized that they were a perfect match. They exchanged wedding vows on August 23, 1973 and blended their two families. Now Doris was also a mother to Mary, Lowell, Paul, Pete, Geralyn and Steve. Doris was so thrilled to finally have some girls around.

Lowell and Doris spent many happy years together at their home near the Lagoon Park in Jordan. They had chickens, ducks & goats and kept a bountiful raspberry patch. Doris referred to their home as God’s Little Acre. It was the perfect place to entertain family and friends. Lowell and Doris enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with their children. Things got even better when the grandkids started to arrive. Doris loved getting all the grandkids together for “G & G Fun-Shine Camp” each summer.

It was very hard for Doris when Lowell passed away, but she was a strong woman and leaned on her faith to get her through the difficult time. She also had many hobbies to occupy her time. Doris enjoyed embroidery, spending time with animals and reading books. She kept a diary her entire life and was a wonderful writer. She was always sending cards, notes and letters to family members and friends.

Doris had a gift for making everyone around her feel special. She was always meeting new people and making a lasting impression on them. Doris was very gregarious, and in her later years, she was like a bright light to other residents and staff at All Saints Senior Living in Shakopee. Doris had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind heart. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandma.

She is survived by her children, Bruce (Debbie) Krohn, Douglas (Lisa) Krohn, Mary (Albie) Breimhorst, Lowell (Sue) Rushmeyer, Paul Rushmeyer, Pete (Debbie) Rushmeyer, Geralyn (Bill) Schmainda, Steve (Jean) Rushmeyer; 17 grandchildren & 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Reiter; other loving relatives & many dear friends. Doris was greeted in Heaven by her husband, Lowell Rushmeyer, Sr., son, Steve Rushmeyer; parents, Robert & Wilma Smith; siblings, Leward Smith, Lyle Smith, Robert Smith, Venita Liebert and Mary Alice Hoogakker; friend & companion, Ray Ulrich.
