Donna was a wonderful teacher. She had such a great sense of humor. She made us laugh at all the crazy things that could happen on a daily basis while working with elementary kids. Teaching with Donna made coming to work a joy. She will be forever in our hearts. Stowe Elementary will miss her dearly.

Love,
Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary

Karen,

I’m sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. She was always a very dear friend to my mother, Nancy, and a nice person as well.

Thank you, Scott. My mom talked about your mom frequently and reminisced about the good times they had. She really missed her.

“Miss Vogen” was my kindergarten teacher at Stowe School in Duluth in the 1961/62 school year. What I remember most about her was how tall she was! But I will also remember all the fun games we got to play in her morning class, the nap times on the mats and the snack times. I remember several things in particular that any other teacher would have gotten upset about that happened in the class, but not Miss Vogen. She took it all in stride and made sure things stayed as calm as can be. I still have my class photo from that year and look at it often with great delight, knowing that Miss Vogen took great care of each and every one of us in that class, as I’m sure she did all the classes she had following that year. R.I.P. Miss Vogen. I will never forget you…..and thank you.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Donna. I didn’t have her as a teacher at Stowe, but I was fortunate to work with her after that.
She loved t to play tricks on people.. I did, too. I do remember one time when I had a chirping bird that I plugged in to her room and she thought there was a bird in her room. That’s what I was hoping she would think. She plugged it in to her classroom as a joke, and guess what?? The superintendent came in and she got out of it so smoothly and and quickly~ She was so witty and fun. My friend Sandy Larson Kershaw went and saw her when she moved to Mpls and the entire time we laughed. She was an amazing woman! She will be missed.

Thank you, Shelly. She did have a great sense of humor. I remember her telling the bird story and recounting many other fun times at Stowe. I’m glad you got a chance to see her after she moved.

Condolence from Barbara Roubal on September 19th, 2020 9:46 am

Karen,
You may not remember me, but I was the assistant for Dr. Hutchinson for many years. You and your mom were beloved patients. I have so many funny memories of kindergarten stories from your mom. Doctor would always tell me to schedule an extra 15 minutes for your mom so we could visit. She would have Doctor laughing as well. She was a trooper when she went through her cancer treatment. We could talk about so many things; antiques was one of them. While your mom lives in heaven now she will always be in my heart. Blessings and kindness to you in the days that follow.

Barbara-I do remember you and Dr. Hutchinson as well. My mom always had the gift of gab and loved telling a story or joke. After her cancer, she had some other medical challenges and she pushed her way through those too. Thank you for your blessings.
