Don’s life story

Donald “Don” D. Iverson
On Tuesday, July 27, 1954 in St. Paul, MN, Donald Dale was born to parents Donald Ivar and Jean Lucille (Brooks) Iverson. He was the second child of four. Don’s younger years were spent growing up in St. Paul and entire summers relaxing at the family’s cabin on Prior Lake. With a love for the water, Don started water skiing at the age of four. At the age of 10, his parents built a permanent home by the lake, where he was able to enjoy the water at any time. As a young boy, Don too had a special love for dogs, especially Rags and Moon.

Graduating from Prior Lake High School in 1972, Don furthered his education at Dakota County Vo-tech as a diesel mechanic. He always had an extraordinary love for motors. Don’s career started fixing semi engines to later following in his father’s foot prints, driving the rigs. He truly loved seeing the countryside and being on the open roads.

Life became complete, when Don met the love of his life, Michelle Cox. Co-workers, they courted for a short time and on Good Friday of April 4, 1980, Don and Michelle exchanged wedding vows in Duluth, MN. They welcomed to the family a beautiful son, Samuel Donald.

As a family, they spent weekends trolling down the river in their house boat, with the dinghy in tow. Don loved exploring the back waters with a beer in his hand and enjoying the sights and sounds around him. Nights were spent around huge campfires creating fond memories with family and friends. Don was the happiest on or around the water.

A teacher, Don taught Sam how to fish, to bowl and fix engines. Together, they treasured the many excursions hunting birds of all types, especially ducks and pheasants. Don loved road trips to Duluth, talking about the weather and Ford trucks.

A man of great generosity, strength and love for his family, Don was compassionate, put others needs always first and had a great sense of humor. He took life in stride and had no fear. Mechanically inclined, Don never let the grass grow under his feet. Dealt a bad hand in March, Don marched through his illness with no complaints. On the morning of Tuesday, December 18, 2012 and in the presence of his family, Don passed away peacefully at the age of 58, at his home in Rosemount.

Deeply missed and forever loved by wife, Michelle of Rosemount; son, Samuel Donald (fiancée Courtney Carlson) Iverson of Farmington; granddaughter, Claire; true companion, Bessie the dog; sisters, Lynda (Greg) Gentz of Chaska, Mary (Rick) Steinhoff of Prior Lake, Laurie (Mike) Roche of New Prague; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Jean. His best friend, Jim Canty will be the urn bearer.

The family will greet guests on Friday, December 21 from 4-7 pm, with a Celebration of Life Service at 7 pm, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake. Jean Breeggemann will be the celebrant.

Condolences for the family of “Donald Iverson”

Condolence from Debbie Coffman on November 21st, 2015 2:06 am

Hi Michelle and Sam,
I just drove by the old house today, and saw your house has sold. I just knew then, so, I came home and found it for certain.
I am SO sorry to hear of your loss of Don/Dad.

Michelle, I always remember if you guys weren’t together, you were getting ready to be. I know you must miss him. It’s been awhile since I have seen any of you. I hope your doing well. Please, get in touch with me if you can figure out how to find me here.
Sam, the kids and you had so much fun playing as kids, and your Dad was always there to pull a prank or lighten up a long day. Always goofing around and smiling, he imprinted me as a very young new wife and Mother. I will always remember you guys, and hope to get to say hi in person again someday.
May GOD bless you and keep you, comfort you and keep you company. May you know HIS presence and love at this time, and always.
Warmly,
Debbie and family
