A resident of Prior Lake, Dennis Dean Hayunga, age 75, passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, August 26, 2014, at Emerald Crest, in Shakopee, MN. A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, August 30 at 2 pm, with a one hour visitation prior to the service, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN. Jean Breeggemann will be the celebrant. Dennis will be laid to rest at Bethany Reform Church Cemetery, in Clara City, MN.
Gracing this world on May 3, 1939, on the family farm, in rural Maynard, MN, Dennis, along with twin brother, Douglas were the middle children, to parents Richard and Hazel (Goldenstein) Hayunga. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bethany Reformed faith, at the Bethany Reformed Church, in Clara City, MN. Dennis graduated from Maynard High School in 1957.
After high school, Dennis began working for Variety Supply Company (VSC), as a men’s and boy’s clothing buyer, where he worked for 24 years. He then relocated to Prior Lake, MN and worked for Midwest Stores for 10 years and Hot Shot Products for 11 years. Dennis retired on October 2, 2006.
On September 11, 1993, at Rosewood Methodist Church, in rural Montevideo, MN, Dennis married Sally Ann McNeil. They were blessed with almost 21 years of marriage.
An avid outdoorsman, Dennis enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed playing cards and shaking dice.
Left to honor and mourn Dennis’ life is his beloved wife, Sally Ann, of Prior Lake, MN; sons, Terry (Sharon) Hayunga of Red Wing, MN; Curtis (Joyce) Hayunga of Walla Walla, WA, David (Kelly) Hayunga of Lewisville, TX; daughter, Darla (John) Chartier of St. Michael, MN; step-children, Darcy (fiancé David Dunsmore) Tribble of North Redwood, MN, Tim Stager of Sarasota, FL, Jody (Kip) Skapyak of North Venice, FL; brother, Wayne (Kathy) Hayunga of Willmar, MN, twin brother, Douglas Hayunga of St. Michael, MN; sister, Pauline (Dennis) Erickson of New London, MN; 11 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
There to welcome Dennis home in heaven is his parents, Richard and Hazel; sister-in-law, Beverly Hayunga and his two four-legged MBF’s (man’s best friends), Pomper and Pootsie.
Dennis’ grandchildren will the urn bearers, with Jason Hayunga carrying the urn and Jeremy Hayunga, Zachery Hayunga, Bryce Hayunga, Andrew Hayunga, Gavin Hayunga, Ashley Hayunga, Justin Hayunga, Antonio Hayunga, Mason Chartier and Eric Chartier will follow.
