Dave Web

Dave Warner passed away suddenly on May 19, 2021 at the age of 46. He was a loving husband and father. Dave will be missed by all who love him.

A public visitation celebrating Dave’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church (3611 North Berens Road NW) in Prior Lake. A private family service will also be held in Dave’s honor. Per CDC and MDH guidelines, masks are required for anyone who isn’t fully vaccinated, and social distancing must be maintained between households.

On January 8, 1975, David Franklin Warner was born to parents, David & Gloria (Hurt) Warner. Dave was the oldest of two boys. He loved growing up in Prior Lake with his brother Joe. In school, Dave played the trombone in band. He was also a talented athlete and excelled at tennis. When he wasn’t participating in his extracurricular activities, he enjoyed cruising around with friends and spending summers on the lake at the family cabin in Annandale.

After graduating from Prior Lake High School in 1993, Dave attended UW-River Falls. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Dave also continued his tennis career in college. He made many lifelong friends through school.

While Dave was pursuing his Master’s Degree in School Counseling, his mother set him up with one of her coworkers in the Prior Lake School District, a lovely young woman named Karoline Reich. Dave and Karoline eventually met. Even though she never called him back, Dave persisted, and the rest was history. Karoline fell in love with his kind and generous heart. Dave and Karoline were married October 14, 2000.

They settled in Shakopee and were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Maiya and Esme. Dave LOVED being a Girl Dad. He was always the fun parent and never wanted to miss a moment with his girls. He loved going on special Daddy-Daughter Dates and always had fun adventures planned for he and his girls. Dave passed on his love of cheesy 80’s movies (Back to the Future, etc.), and they watched America’s Got Talent together every week. They enjoyed reading together, practicing magic tricks and just spending time together.

Dave was as wonderful provider for his family. He worked hard to provide a good life for his girls. Dave brought his amazing parenting skills with him to work every day, where he was an extra dad to a lot of his students. All of the kids loved Mr. Warner, because he was truly a kid at heart. His office was filled with games and toys, including a Star Wars collection. Dave had a standing rule that if a student ever gave him a drawing, that student got a drawing back from him. He was so proud to be a school counselor, and he was really good at his job.

Following in his mother’s footsteps, Dave was very active in state and national professional organizations. He was always there to lend a helping hand or volunteer his time and talents. Dave served as the MSCA President and was a past School Counselor of the Year for MN. He was very proud of his most recent work to receive the RAMP recognition for Oakview Elementary from ASCA.

In his free time, Dave loved being with his family. He especially loved spending time together at the cabin, and he recently began fishing with his dad up there. Dave was also a huge Vikings fan; he never missed a game. Dave loved video games and was always an early adopter. Atari, Nintendo, Virtual Reality…he loved it all! Dave had a strong faith and was also active at SOLLC. Over the years Dave helped with his girls’ Sunday School and was an active member of the Living Water Group.

Dave was a loving and thoughtful man. He was always doing things for others. Dave wasn’t afraid of hard work, but he also knew how to have fun and enjoy life. Dave has left behind a wonderful legacy for his family. He will be remembered always by his wife, Karoline Warner; daughters, Maiya and Esme Warner; parents, David & Gloria Warner; brother, Joe (Naomie) Warner; niece & nephew, Adeline and Thatcher Warner; other loving relatives, friends, coworkers and students. Dave was greeted in Heaven by his grandparents.

Condolence from Nancy & Jim, Rebecca, Tom and Alisa on May 21st, 2021 6:11 pm

Karoline and girls, Dave and Gloria,

We cannot express in words our deepest sympathy and love to all of you at this time. We haven’t seen Dave, Jr. for several years, but we have loving memories of him at our wedding (as a little 4-year old), at Rebecca and Tom’s wedding, at his wedding , and countless summers at the cabin.

We will remember him as a sweet, gentle and caring person every time we saw him. I have memories of watching Wimbleton with the Warner gang on the 4th of July at the cabin. He was passionate about the game, and his sense of humor with us all was a warm part of the day.

As lifelong Christians, we know that he is in God’s loving hands now. Dave and Gloria, you should be lovingly proud of the life he led . At this time as tears cannot stop, please know that he is in a place of love and peace.

Again, words cannot express our feelings well at this time. We love you.

Condolence from DeeDee, Hap, Elise, Lindsey, and Harry Long on May 22nd, 2021 4:49 pm

Our most sincere condolences to Dave’s family. We knew Dave as Mr. Warner at Oak View. He supported my three kids throughout there years at OV, especially my oldest and my youngest. His friendship groups were such a help for my oldest. And I can not thank him enough for his one on one support he gave my youngest. My youngest struggled with separation and I can’t count the number of times Mr. Warner would help me in the mornings with getting my kiddo out of my car. His patience and caring attention were so helpful. I remember getting emails from him sometimes where he would just update me on how my son was doing—sometimes it was to say he was having a rough day so he had spent some time with him or other times it was to say he saw him from a distance and he wanted me to know and feel good that my kiddo was all smiles. He always went above and beyond and I just can’t even express how sorry I am for all of you that he passed. We will always remember Mr. Warner!!

Condolence from Kristi Eckdahl on May 22nd, 2021 5:14 pm

The Lord called his warrior home in an unexpected way. Dave is Oak View’s magician, riddler, jokester, music man, cheerleader, and friend. A day doesn’t go by without a bright smile or a “did you fill out a drop today?” He will be remembered by so many for his wise counsel and advice. My deepest symptoms for your family during this time of mourning. May you have moments of laughter and beautiful memories flood your days. Maiya and Esme, my students (4th graders) want you to know they are thinking of you. They heard stories of you and are sad with you.

Condolence from Mary Jane Brewster on May 23rd, 2021 3:03 pm

Warner Family: I only knew Dave through the MN School Counselors Conferences, but he was so warm and welcoming, kind and helpful, and memorable in so many good ways. Once, we ended up seated next to each other on a flight, and had a delightful talk the whole way. I can only imagine the hole his loving absence leaves, but know there are many wonderful memories. God bless you all. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Condolence from Ryan Bramich on May 23rd, 2021 3:18 pm

I am devastated and so sorry to learn of David’s passing. My heart breaks for Karoline, Maiya, Esme and the whole Warner family. David was such a uniquely kind and genuine guy. We shared a love of retro arcade games and had both recently purchased the same cabinet with 5k games we grew up with. We’d compare notes on which games Millie or Esme enjoyed playing with us the most. It became a new way during the pandemic for both of us to bond with our girls at home. David was always in good spirits with a great, big smile on his face. I can only imagine the tremendous impact he had on so many lives thru his school and was happy to see he was recently recognized for it. Not many of us get to impact others the way David did thru his work. I hope David’s life and memory can be a blessing to you and the whole Warner family….

Condolence from Lorry Day on May 23rd, 2021 3:28 pm

I am deeply saddened by the sudden death of Dave. Though now retired, I worked with Dave in Osseo Schools for many years. Dave always greeted everyone with a smile. Dave will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

My heart breaks for all of you. Such an unimaginable loss. Our deepest sympathy.

Condolence from Courtney and Chase Haas on May 23rd, 2021 9:37 pm

We are so incredibly sorry for the devastating loss of Dave. The heartbreak so many are feeling and loss for words is just so big. Chase and I knew Dave as Mr Warner at Oak View. He was a cornerstone for Chase in first and second grade. He vividly and very fondly smiled when I mentioned his name. Then had many tears as I explained of his sudden passing. Chase (now in 6th grade) and I talked this loss through at length when we learned. We kept asking ourselves, what would Mr Warner tell us? ♥️ It is beyond an awesome impression that Mr Warner left on Chase’s heart. God truly called one of the AMAZING ones home a bit too soon. We will keep you all in our hearts and prayers as you process through this great big loss. To know Mr Warner, was to love Mr Warner.
Much love all the way from El Paso, Texas!
The Haas Family

Condolence from Brenda Meyer on May 24th, 2021 2:50 pm

Dear Family of Dave Warner,

We have never met and Dave most likely never mentioned me. I worked with Dave at Fair Oaks and then at Oak View. I remember Dave’s passion for serving, comforting and bringing joy to not only the kids but to the staff. Hearing of his passing has been disturbing to know that so many will not be able to meet or know his loving gentle and caring personality. He was a gentle, joyful giant of a man that cared so much for so many. I did not know much about you from the years I worked with Dave other than if he loved and cared for the students and staff as he did, he loved and cared for you even more.

God’s peace be with you until you are reunited again with him in the presence of our Savior.

Dear Warner Family,

I am incredibly sorry to hear about your loss. I knew Dave when I was a 6th grade teacher at Oak View. He was such a great role model for the students and staff alike. One of my favorite things that he did with the students was reciting the “I am Special” poem/chant. Every time he led it I could see the confidence the students gained in the power of saying those words. He was an incredible person and will truly be missed by so many.

I am thankful to have known him; I will keep the things he taught me.

Condolence from Julia Corneil-Smith on June 19th, 2021 7:38 am

I am so incredibly sorry for your sudden and deep loss. May the sweet memories of him and the love you had for him bring you comfort in the hard days and moments ahead. I knew Dave from the school counseling world. It’s hard to pinpoint when we met as he always seemed to be part of that segment of our worlds. He was a fierce advocate for students and the profession. He was always fun to see as our school counseling events and his love for his own family was evident. I always enjoyed seeing him and catching up. His absence will leave a tremendous hole in your lives and also in the lives of his school counseling colleagues from across our state. We are saddened by his loss as well and our hearts go out to his family and the rest of those who loved him.
