On February 5, 1937, Darlene Agnes was born to parents Alfred and Hildegard (Busch) Von Bank. She was the seventh of eight children to be born and raised on the family farm near St. Joe (in rural Jordan). Growing up, Darlene developed a strong work ethic which she then passed on to her five children along with her deep sense of faith & family. For several years, she worked at a restaurant in Bloomington and one year even represented them in the Miss Bloomington Pageant.
While attending mass at St. Joe’s Catholic Church, Darlene would often cross paths with fellow parishioner Dan (Donny) Hennes in their younger years. While in the Korean War, he often thought about Darlene and after he returned, Dan had the courage to ask her out. They hit it off and the rest is history! On May 25, 1957 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Darlene and Dan were united in marriage. They were blessed with 63 years together and settled in Shakopee to raise their five children.
Together, the family enjoyed spending time at their lake home in Eden Valley, MN —fishing, water skiing, having fun, and making lake life memories for over 52 years. After they retired, they spent many winters in Alamo, TX. She also focused time volunteering with charity groups, especially Meals on Wheels.
When the children were older, Darlene began to work outside the home. For several years she worked at O’Keefe Dry Cleaners and later Super Valu in Shakopee, in the bakery. In her free time, Darlene enjoyed gardening, canning, working in the yard, playing cards, and stopping at every garage sale in her path. In later years, Darlene’s life was further enriched with a growing family. She loved being a grandma and great grandma.
Darlene was a compassionate woman who was always there to lend a helping hand. Her twinkling eyes, beautiful warm smile, and wide-open arms will be missed by many. She is forever loved by her husband Dan; children, Deb (Steve) Wermerskirchen, Pam (Mike) Pumper, Rick (Janni) Hennes, Ken Hennes (Fiancé Brenda Johnson), Beth (Einar) Odland; 12 grandchildren, Troy (Nora) Wermerskirchen, Tonya (Jason) Palo, Tara (Jason) Schmidt, Jennifer (Kyle) Maas, Jeff (Bri) Pumper, Kelly Hennes, Kristin (Max) Hennes-Timm, Dan Hennes, Cassie Hennes, Cory (Amber) Odland, Casey (Brittni) Odland; 15 great-grandchildren and another on the way in January; siblings, Alice O’Keefe, Andrina O’Keefe, Jeron (Sandee) Von Bank; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Von Bank; other relatives and friends.
Darlene is greeted in Heaven by her grandson, Jeremy Pumper; parents, Alfred and Hildegard Von Bank; siblings, Leonette (Wayne) Sutton, Valerie (Elmer) Geis, Lorraine Belcher, Alan Von Bank; brothers-in-law, Gene O’Keefe and John O’Keefe.

Many great memories. She seemed to always have a smile on her face.
So sorry for your loss
Hennes Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Darlene was a favorite aunt of mine – that twinkle in her eye and laughter made it so easy to love her like a 2nd mom. I can just imagine some of shenanigans the reunited VonBank sisters are enjoying.
Love and hugs to the Hennes Family
Donny and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Donny, I know how you feel. It is really hard . My prayers are with you. John and Darlene are in heaven together. My love you!!
Auntie Darlene was one of those special people you won’t forget! Always ready for a good time or to make me feel special. Out fished everyone in the boat, always had such great food ready for everyone. Loved a good joke or to play one on an unsuspecting nephew! We are both grateful for our last visit together. Our big virtual hugs will have to be enough for now until we can toast your mom together. Donny we will all miss her but not as much as you will I know

Auntie Darlene was an incredible Aunt. She always made me feel part of her family. When I was young and visiting at Christmas time , even with 5 children to take care of, she found time and resources to buy me snow mobile boots for a gift. Connie is right I am sure the Vonbank sisters are on their third Chinese Fire Drill and scores of hayrides. One can never forget her masterful snook and poopie!
I am so sorry for your loss. Darlene was such a warm caring woman and so welcoming. She had a way of making you feel like a part of the family. Heaven got a lot brighter when she gained her wings and I am sure Jeremy was waiting with open arms.
Sending you all a big hug and keeping you in my prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of Darlene’s passing (one of the St. Joe girls) We have many fond memories of our parents get togethers. Hilda and Alfred were one of the St. Joe gang. I remember so many things about out on the farm. One I especially remember was Andrina’s wedding on the farm and Darlene and I eating the strings of apple peelings as mom and the cooks were baking the pies. Just a thing to remember not to do!!! St. Joe school oh my! She will surely be missed and that beautiful smile.

Talk about a woman with a twinkle in her eye, my Auntie Darlene was a positive force in this life. She was always one of my favorite humans, my heart goes out to the entire family (and friends). My mom always said that she was the rock of our family! I love you all so much, and my hubby feels the same. Russ knew I was always surrounded by great people growing up, and was grateful to be welcomed into the family. Thinking of all of you, and holding you close to my heart.
