Dale Kenneth Dahmen was a man, who had a great enthusiasm for the love of music and a deep passion for his family. At the age of 55, he sadly and unexpectedly was taken from his loved ones, along with his son, Dominick, on Wednesday, February 1, 2023.
A celebration of life will be held honoring Dale and Dominick on Sunday, February 19, 2023, from 1-6 pm, with a prayer service at 2 pm, at the Medina Entertainment Center, 500 Highway 55, Medina, MN.
Memorials are preferred to the family.
Unbeknown to the polka world, a gifted musician, named Dale Kenneth was born on June 4, 1967, in Little Falls, MN. He was the first of three children born to Kenneth and Janet (Kasella) Dahmen. Dale attended grade school at St. Joseph Catholic School, graduating from Pierz/Healy High School, in 1985. He completed his education with a degree in sales management from Dakota County Vo tech in 1987.
From Dale’s first breath, music was a passion. At the young age of 6, he was already excelling in his craft. By 12, Dale formed the band Dale Dahmen & The Polka Beats. For the next 44 years, the name became a staple in the music world. Playing the concertina and bass guitar, he, and the band entertained crowds for countless hours on stage and brought much excitement onto the dance floor. In 2012, Dale was inducted into the Concertina Hall of Fame, for his accomplishments. Dale was most content playing music for people to enjoy!
Besides music, Dale’s greatest desire was being surrounded by family. While playing at a gig at Lakeside Ballroom, he met the love of his life, who was bartending, Sherry Wagener. The love story immediately began and on May 28, 1994, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Waconia, MN, Dale and Sherry tied the knot. They were blessed with two amazing sons, Dominick and Samuel. As infants, Dale was introducing and fostering them to love music. He held the boys to high standards to excel in their craft as a musician, which they did! The greatest joy for Dale was playing with his sons, on or off stage.
In Dale’s spare time, he loved assisting Sherry in building of her nutrition club. Dale spent numerous hours making shakes for customers and socializing. He and Sherry loved attending concerts of all genres! They treasured vacations that took them to warm and sunny destinations.
Dale Kenneth Dahmen was determined, passionate and motivated. His family, friends and dogs were always his top priority. Dale was genuine, inquisitive, and always wanted to learn. He was taken too soon and will be forever missed by all!!!
Left to carry on Dale’s legacy and forever loved by wife, Sherry; son, Sam Dahmen; four legged companions, Storm and Radke; parents, Ken and Jan Dahmen; parents-in-law, Ken and Toots Wagener; siblings, Dean (Ali) Dahmen, Denise (Jeff) Lowe; niece, Avery Lowe; nephews, Daniel Dahmen, Derek Dahmen, Donny Dahmen, Dawson Lowe, Tyler Wagener, Josh Wagener; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Kelly Wagener, Jonie Wagener, Kevin (Lori) Wagener, Shawn Wagener; other relatives and friends
Dale and Dominick walked side by side into Heaven and there greeting them were Dale’s grandparents, Mike & Angie Dahmen, and Ben & Leona Kasella.

Dale, just got to enjoy you tickle the button box at my first Concertina Bowl up in Blaine this year. Have been lucky enough to get to hear you play over the years at various events…can’t believe the news that you and your son are gone…hope you’re still playing that concertina up in heaven!
Our hearts ache for the loss of Dale and Dominic It is imaginable to begin to feel your pain and loss. I believe they are walking hand and hand and greeted by family that preceded them. I imagine Judy saying “what the heck are you two doing here “ heaven will be busy with all the angels dancing. I think my Mom will join them on the piano. Love, prayers and hugs to all.
Such a tragic loss, the polka world will never be the same. And a family torn in half, so very sorry to you Sherry and Samuel. Prayers to you.

I feel a heavy heart that Dale was taken , but know he is in Heaven , I went to school with from k- 12 ! I remember listening to him play , Dale also was given my Dads concertina from my mom – Richard and Margie Hennen ! I know my Dad and Dale will meet in Heaven ! With their angel wings playing music together !! God Bless !

Am so sorry to hear of your loss – It will be a great loss also to many many senior dancers – I am 90 and don’t dance any more but my husband and I went to many many dances for seniors that Dale played at – we all enjoyed his playing so much – when he played for us no one sat at their tables – we were all up dancing – Know he will have many to play for where he is now – many prayers are sent your way!!

It has taken me a while to wrap my head and heart around this loss!! I have been working with Dale’s Polka Beats for the past 23 years and was looking forward to upcoming gigs in 2023. Back in the early 2000’s when Dominick and Samuel were just little guys, Shirley and I use to baby sit those llittle fellows when Sherry and Dale needed help. We lived 2 blocks apart! Then they grew up to be some BIG DUDES!!!
All three of them were great musicians! I was fortunate enough to be along to help Dale coach them driving to and from gigs. I will miss Dale’s fantastic concertina skills. We played well together!! Always got along well and enjoyed each other’s company. Me and my tuba will miss you all..

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember when the Dahmen family owned the grocery store here in Pierz. Ken and Jan, you two were always good people and the people skills you two have is unbeatable. My Grandpa Casimir Piasecki and I would shop your store and it was amazing when recently I started stopping at Dale and Sherry’s Nutrition Store in Pierz that again I was shopping with the Dahmen’s. Samuel, I personally know what you are going through at having to bury a sibling. My family just buried my brother Tom Gerwing yesterday. Sherry my heart goes out to you as you have to bury not only a husband but a son as well. I will keep all of you in my prayers.
Saddened by this news and sending heartfelt condolences to family and friends. Dale was an integral part of our music and polka fest s for many years and will be truly missed.

Sherry and Sam,
Please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of Dale and Dominick. We met Dale in the early 90’s at a polka dance at the Majestic Ballroom in MN. He was such a friendly guy (and good dancer). It has been years since we have seen him in person (as we live in central Wisconsin) but have watched videos of the band online. Cherish all the wonderful memories you have. May God give you strength during this difficult time. Sending love, hugs and prayers to you both.
