Cinde Peterson, of Prior Lake, passed away on April 20, 2016 at the age of 57. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church; 3611 North Berens Road in Prior Lake. Reverend Adam Teske will preside. Cinde will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
On May 27, 1958 George and Mavis Stransky welcomed their beautiful daughter, Cynthia Lynn, into the world. Cinde was the oldest of three girls and loved growing up in Bloomington with her sisters, Elisabeth and Kathy. As a girl, Cinde developed a lifelong love for boating that she later passed on to her own children. The Stransky family spent summers boating on Lake Minnetonka and vacationing on Big Island. They also took family road trips up north. Every family activity revolved around spending time on the water boating, skiing or swimming.
After graduating from Bloomington Lincoln High School, Cinde enlisted in the Army Reserves. She proudly served her country as a nurse in the Reserves for a decade before being honorably discharged. During her service, Cinde was literally the “poster child” for the Reserves. She and a friend were asked to pose for the Army Reserve’s recruiting materials.
As a young woman, Cinde met Rollyn Peterson. The two hit it off immediately, and they were married on April 3, 1982. Cinde and Rollyn were blessed with two wonderful children, Lindsay and Scott. They lived in Bloomington and Richfield before settling in Prior Lake to raise their family. Cinde and Rollyn were together for 25 years before going separate ways.
When Lindsay and Scott were young, Cinde and Rollyn loved to take them camping every chance they got. They’d go on family camping trips and spend weekends away with groups of friends. Cinde also passed on her love for boating to her kids. They spent a lot of time together on Lake Mille Lacs.
Cinde developed a strong work ethic in the military, and this served her well in civilian life. She helped support her family by working as an executive assistant in the health care industry. She had other odd jobs throughout her life. As long as she was working with people, she was happy.
When Cinde wasn’t working, she was spending time with her family and friends. It was through a friend that she met her boyfriend, John Doyle. Cinde and John spent the last ten years making many wonderful memories together. Cinde especially loved the winters they spent together in Cape Coral, Florida.
Cinde was always very active, and she loved being outdoors. She enjoyed mowing the lawn and doing yardwork. She liked sunbathing and sitting around a campfire with friends. Later in life she took up golfing, and this quickly became a passion of hers. Cinde also loved her annual girls trip to the State Fair with her daughter. Although Cinde had many hobbies and interests, the most important thing in her life was her family. She especially loved being “Grammy” to Taylor, Jackson and Everett, and she couldn’t wait to meet the newest addition to the family, Oliver.
About a year ago, Cinde was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. She moved to the VA Medical Center to receive treatment. She quickly made many wonderful friends and was known for her bright smile and joyful laugh. Cinde spent her last day surrounded by her family.
She will be deeply missed and remembered always by her children, Lindsay (Mike) Nelson, Scott (Megan) Peterson; grandkids, Taylor, Jackson, Everett and Oliver (expected any day); boyfriend, John Doyle and their dog, Mr. Cooper; Lindsay and Scott’s father, Rollyn Peterson; sisters, Elisabeth (Ron) Kent; Kathy (Joel) Pietig; her VA family; other loving relatives and many dear friends. Cinde is preceded by her parents, George and Mavis Stransky.

I’m the “Friend” in the poster. Cinde and I enlisted together our senior year of high school. We were best friends and glued at the hip. While we were serving in Basic Training in So. Carolina, we had this poster made at the USO. I sent a copy to my mom back in Bloomington and she in turn took it to the recruiting office to show us off. The Recruiter then asked if they could use it for a recruiting poster. We were thrilled! Secretly I always believed it was because Cinde was such a beautiful young lady.
We lost touch after separating from the service and I always hoped to meet up with her again. I was very happy when I finally located her on Facebook over 30 years later. My only regret is that we never got to see each other again.
To Beth and Kathy, I send my love. In my heart, you will always be my little sisters.

Last time I saw Cinde was at our 30th reunion, & she was exactly like she was in high school – sweet, sassy & hilarious! I’m really gonna miss her, she was taken way too soon.

Lindsay, Kathy, John and the rest of the family. We are so very sorry for your loss. Derrick spent many days in theVA hospital and we got to know Cinde and her family so well they became family to us and we are so very sad. We will miss that beautiful smile and wonderful energy that she brought to us. We are so blessed to have known her and she made our lives so much richer. We love her and her family and will always be there for them. God bless you all and may you find strength during this time of great sorrow. We will continue to pray for the family because when prayers go up, blessings come down.
We all will miss Cinde so much!! She was the spark at family get togethers and reunions. My heart goes out to her family. We lost another good one

My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to her children and her sisters/families. She was so much fun to be with! Her infectous laughter was contagious. She was deeply loved by so many especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered fondly and missed by so many! Rest in Peace Cinde!
