Charlotte Marie Johnson

Charlotte Marie Stender was born in Dent, MN on April 3, 1929 to parents Charles and Mathilda (Trick) Stender. She was the second oldest of 11 children.

Her childhood years were spent in Dent, where she helped on the family dairy farm as well as helping take care of her younger siblings. She attended the country school.

Charlotte and her sister decided to Leave Dent and move to Minneapolis where they both became Nanny’s. She enjoyed spending the money she made by shopping and “eating her wages”. She eventually took a job as a janitor for North Star Building, where she was employed for 27 years. She always worked nights when her children were sleeping, as to not miss any of their daytime activities. She retired in 1993.

In 1952, she married Clifford Johnson and they were blessed with four children, Charles, Jeannette, Sharon and Larry.

Charlotte enjoyed scrapbooking articles, bingo and being a Mom and Grandma.

Known to be soft spoken, hard-working, and non- judgmental, Charlotte died peacefully with her family by her side, during the early evening hours on December 14, 2013 at the age of 84.

Forever loved, Charlotte will be deeply missed by her children, Charles (Debbie) Johnson of Alexandria,
Jeannette (Gerald) Zappetillo of Prior Lake, Sharon Johnson of Silver Lake, Larry Johnson of Worthing, SD; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys (Kenneth) Elberling of Ashby, MN, Margaret (Glen) Laugen of Fergus Falls, Joyce Ughlig of Erhard, MN, Betty (Jerome) Hallderson of Duluth, Lila Roesnow of Anoka; brothers, Charles Stender of Pelican Rapids, Kenneth (Diane) Stender of Fergus Falls, Clem (Betty) Stender of Albert Lea.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; parents, Charles and Mathilda (Trick) Stender; brother, Lloyd Stender; sister, Carolyn (Arnold) Nord; brother in laws, Victor Roesnow, Lyle Uhlig; sister in law, Helen Stender; granddaughter, Amber Johnson.

Pall bearers for Charlotte will be her grandchildren.

The Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday, December 20 at 11am with visitation from 9:30-11am, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake. Reverend Daniel Lindner will preside. Charlotte will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery, Minneapolis.
