Bonnie Ueland-Scherer, age 59 of Prior Lake, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 11AM with a visitation prior starting at 9:30AM all at St. Michael Catholic Church, Prior Lake. Bonnie will be laid to rest at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Father Tom Walker will preside.
On October 14, 1957, parents Donald and Dorothy (Danielson) Ueland celebrated the birth of their youngest daughter. She was the third of four children. Growing up in a small house in Shakopee, Bonnie was close with all her sibling. Bonnie shared a room with her brother, resulting in a tight knit friendship and the occasional fight. Along with her siblings, she attended school in Shakopee and graduated in 1975.
Bonnie’s life was enriched when she met Steven Scherer—he was truly the love of her life! Together they started a family and Bonnie gladly welcomed his previous children into the family. Bonnie loved her family more than anything, her grandchildren being the light of her life. The family enjoyed the simple things like spending time together, taking road trips, and volunteering in the community.
Along with Steve, Bonnie encouraged her daughter’s involvement with the girl scouts. They helped with pancake breakfasts, cookie sales, and most importantly the annual plant sale fundraiser. When she wasn’t volunteering and with her family, Bonnie worked as the manager of Cub Foods for decades.
One of the defining qualities of Bonnie was her compassion for others. When her brother committed suicide, she became an advocate and board member with Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE). When Bonnie herself was diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome, she started the MN RSD Coalition to help others with the same condition. Bonnie was a giver. She gave her time and her talents to anyone who needed them.
Bonnie believed strongly in the power of laughter. She was known for her humorous, random gift giving. Even during her last days suffering from leukemia, Bonnie laughed. With the love of her family and with her faith, she persevered through more suffering than an individual ever should—the death of her husband and her daughter, Amanda.
Bonnie was a fun-loving, big hearted individual whose legacy of happiness, compassion and laughter will live on in her daughter, Miriah (Steve) Johnson; step-children, Nicholas Scherer, Shannon (Ted) Hennen; Amanda’s fiancé, Cory Kessler; grandchildren, Roman Johnson, Paityn Johnson, Kolten Johnson; step-grandchildren, Rebecca Sherer, Alexis Hennen, Logan Hennen, Jacob Kessler; siblings, Mona (Perry) Carpenter, Nancy (Bruce) Theis; sister-in-law, Rhonda Ueland; other loving relatives and friends.
Bonnie will be greeted in heaven by her husband, Steve; daughter, Amanda; parents; and brother, Bruce.

I’ve known Bonnie since the days of growing up on Hauer Trail. She lived on one end and I on the other. I just recently became closer to her through her support group for RSD/CRPS. I will greatly miss her smile and her outlook on life and her support. Prayers to her family.

When God created Bonnie, “He broke the mold” as my mother loved to say about one-of-a-kind individuals.
It was my honor to know Bonnie and Steve and to walk many times together to raise money to help RSDSA support all those suffering with CRPS. I miss her and truly appreciated her loving spirit.
Peace, Jim Broatch
